This is the perfect tour for you if you love off-the-beaten-path destinations, breathtaking sceneries and being surrounded by nature.
Learn about the origin of two of the most consumed drinks in the world: coffee and chocolate.
During this tour you get to visit two different non-touristy farms, one of cacao and one of coffee, only 1 hour away from Medellin and close to each other so you spend most of the time enjoying and learning about the artisanal process of both products.
Taking this tour you learn and participate in all the steps from planting the seeds to packaging. Then you have the chance to customize your chocolate and buying premium quality coffee and chocolate products.
To complement this experience we provide a delicious traditional lunch (included) served in the farm that you eat as you contemplate the stunning views.
But definetly the best of this tour is interacting with the warmest farmers in their houses.

Your day begins right at your doorstep as we pick you up and head north of Medellín—just an hour away—through breathtaking landscapes. Upon arrival, we're greeted by cacao farmers. We leave our vehicle at the cacao farm and begin a scenic 800-foot (approx. 250 meters) uphill hike to the coffee farm. Since there’s no road access, the trail can be steep, but we’ll take our time to enjoy the spectacular views. The hike takes about 10–15 minutes ascending and 8–10 minutes descending. As the trail is natural terrain, we recommend wearing trekking boots or shoes with good grip, especially if the ground is wet. At the coffee farm, the hosts welcome us with a cup of premium Colombian coffee. A coffee expert then provides a detailed introduction to Colombia’s rich coffee culture. We’ll then head to the plantation, where you’ll pick beans by hand and learn how to depulp, ferment, and dry them using traditional artisanal methods.
After brewing coffee using two traditional methods, we enjoy a delicious regional lunch with a stunning view and fresh farm-made lemonade. This is one of the most authentic and traditional meals of our region—rarely found in restaurants and truly exceptional. After lunch, there’s an opportunity to purchase freshly roasted coffee, if you’d like to take some home. With full hearts and full stomachs, we say goodbye to our coffee farmer hosts and begin our short walk to the next experience: the cacao farm. We begin with a deep dive into the world of chocolate, covering essential topics such as: - The global history and production of chocolate. - How to maintain a healthy cacao plantation - Common cacao pests and sustainable control methods. By the end of this introduction, you'll have enough knowledge to consider starting your own cacao farm! Step 1: Harvesting Cacao Stroll through the plantation and explore cacao plants in their natural environment, alongside other local crops.

The experience was phenomenal! We absolutely loved Sara as a guide and the whole experience was beyond perfect! The weather was fantastic for it, having the farms be quiet was so nice, the mountain ranges and views are absolutely stunning! We thoroughly enjoyed our day, and we are both so insanely grateful that other couple cancelled. Thank you so much! Delicious and highly educational experience!

I can definitely join the many glowing reviews on MedellinDayTrips. I had the pleasure to go on the Coffee and Chocolate farm tour with Sara and it was a fantastic day from start to finish. Sara picked me up at my accomodation in Laureles and we immediately started to talk, chat and laugh. She is a person full of energy and with an abundant wealth of knowledge that she happily shares, so I already learned a lot about Colombia during our one hour drive to the farms. We started with the coffee farm which is a nice hike up a hill and owned by a lovely lady (actually a couple but I only met the lady) and then walked a bit down the same hill to the chocolate farm also owned by a lovely woman, both were very kind and welcoming. During all activities, Sara translated (as my Spanish is pretty bad) and it was very clear that she had a very warm and close relation to the two farm owners. I learned so much about coffee and chocolate production, thank you so much, Sara, Ana and Sandra! On the ride back, Sara even helped me find an ATM in Medellin before she safely dropped me off back at my accomodation. Let me also mention that before I booked the tour, the communication with Andrés was amazing. In my many years of travelling, I probably never had someone answering this quickly and comprehensively to my initial questions. Andrés was also very patient with some of my probably strange or tricky questions (like about dietary details of meals or tailoring a tour) and I really appreciate this. After deciding for this specific tour and booking it, he was always available and made sure the tour went great. Thank you again Sara and Andrés for an unforgettable day! <3 See you next time! And to all fellow tourists, please support this locally owned agency, I can recommend them wholeheartedly

Laura was fantastic—warm, knowledgeable, and fluent in English, Spanish, and even some German. She had a great rapport with the farmers, drove us safely both ways, and made the whole coffee and chocolate tour relaxed and memorable. The tour company was also friendly and very well organised in arranging everything.

I can’t imagine a better day trip! Our guide Alejo was as friendly and knowledgeable as anyone my wife and I have ever met. We are so grateful he was our guide, he made our trip truly special. The farm tour including the coffee and chocolate production were also very special. Many thanks to the owners and their hospitality. 500 stars!

We were so fortunate to have Alejandro as our guide. From the beginning, we connected with him as if we were old friends catching up. As we drove through Medellín on our way out to the coffee and cacao farm, he took the time to explain to us the history of the country from before the time Bolívar broke up Gran Colombia up to the present day, and over the extremely diverse geographic regions that make up the distinct foods and cultures that make up the Colombia of the Amazon compared to Andean Colombia. Pacific Colombia, and Caribbean Colombia. As many Americans tend to know very little about South America, I was so fortunate to get so much time to learn from Alejandro. This only made our trip at the farm that much more special. The farm itself was perfect for the children that joined us, as they were free to explore and feed the very hungry chickens and play with the endlessly flowing mountain water draining into a basin. During that time, we got to eat fresh fruit from the land while Alejandro took us on a trip to enlighten us to the global history of coffee and chocolate, and how Colombia became a premier grower of both. Through it all he helped us understand the struggles that local farmers have had to endure, both to their health as well as financially, . Harvesting and brewing coffee and experiencing the differences in processing was itself so special. And being able to open up a cacao fruit, roast it and turn it into chocolate that we ate that very day was such a special experience. I've had coffee from all over the world, but I've never had any coffee as good as what we got to drink and purchase from the farm. This trip is for those that really want to immerse themselves with the people and history of Colombia. Thank you Alejandro!

This tour was great. The tour company representative Andres was extremely helpful. He always promptly answered any question I had and even helped us find a group tour with another company. The tour guide was Sara, and she was fantastic. She was extremely knowledgeable and was a very sweet and caring person. I could not have asked for a better experience and thank Medellin Day trips for our great memory of a lifetime. THANK YOU!!!!!!!
