If you’re looking for a coffee tour that will deepen your knowledge and expose you to interact with local communities off-the-beaten-path, this is for you. The tours take place in the community of San Miguel Escobar in the outskirts of Antigua (20 or 30 minutes) where the coffee growers will lead you through their fields, explain the work behind cultivating coffee, walk you through each processing step from bean to brew, and finish the tour by joining you for a coffee in their home. Along the way, you’ll learn more than just the process behind coffee--you’ll have authentic and transparent conversations with small-scale producers to hear firsthand about their obstacles, triumphs, and goals as coffee growers and experience their persisting enthusiasm and dedication to the coffee industry.

We learned a lot from the tour guide and interpreter, Gabi, about coffee production, how this company does things differently to benefit people of Antigua more than marketers and importers, and local cultural information. We received hands-on education about the coffee plants and supporting vegetation, such as banana trees and other ones that provide shade. Picking coffee cherries was very therapeutic.

It was a very informative and rewarding experience to see how much work it takes to get a cup of coffee. Most of the money spent for the tour goes to the local people and the nonprofit. We enjoyed the whole process of making our own cup of coffee. Highly recommend this tour.

Easily one of the most rewarding experiences of our trip to Guatemala. This is a legit coffee tour directly from a local family who grows and cultivates their own coffee beans. Our amazing and friendly guide was Juan Carlos. We learned about the process in great detail as we toured his farm, and then we roasted beans and enjoyed the coffee in Juan Carlos’ home. I have a new appreciation for coffee, specifically real high quality coffee. Just about everything is done by hand. You can taste the difference. Special shout out to Isabelle, the best translator ever!

This was one of the highlights of our trip. The coffee producer, Mercedes and his daughter prepared a traditional lunch for us before we toured the coffee fields. We now have a better appreciation for coffee and the work that goes into each cup. Nataly was our interpreter. We would have been lost without her. I would definitely recommend this experience.

We had a truly wonderful time learning from Don Andres! We had no idea how much goes into making coffee, getting to see firsthand gave us a new appreciation for coffee. Truly no words to explain how much we enjoyed the tour! Recommend to anyone, whether they like coffee or not. Will definitely return!!! (And will request Don Andres!)

If you want to understand the true "grit" behind your morning caffeine fix, skip the massive commercial estates and book a tour with De La Gente. This is a raw, honest, and deeply human look at the labor that fuels a global industry. We spent the morning with our guide and a local farmer on the slopes of Volcán de Agua. It was an education in the sheer physical toll and patience required to cultivate specialty beans. Hearing firsthand about the cycles of planting and harvest, which often take place decades in the making, redefines your appreciation for a "simple" cup of coffee. The highlight of the experience is transitioning from the field to the farmer’s home. We moved from the agricultural scale to the domestic, where we learned to roast beans over an open flame and grind them by hand using a traditional volcanic stone. Sitting down in the family's kitchen to taste the the very beans we had just seen and processed was a powerful moment of connection. It’s an authentic, transparent, and humble experience that supports the community directly. A must-do for any coffee lover visiting Antigua who values sustainability and storytelling over typical tourist traps.

Fantastic tour arranged through De La Gente. We spent the entire day with Elisandro and Hilda Gomez and an interpreter at their home and in the coffee fields learning the extensive preparation involved in both cooking Guatemala’s famed dish, pepian (with accompaniments), and the coffee production process. It was amazing to see the tremendous amount of work that goes into the preparation of both of these. We will never look at a cup of coffee the same way again or complain about the price! Food and coffee were delicious. What made this tour stand out even more were the Gomez’ and the interpreter, a young woman from the same village as the Gomez’ (unfortunately, we have forgotten her name). They were warm, inviting and open to all of our questions. They possessed a great sense of humor and put us at ease from the start. There was a lot of interactive time especially during the cooking and we felt it really enhanced our understanding and appreciation of the work involved . Our interpreter also did a phenomenal job with her great English skills, quickly and clearly translating Spanish to English and vice-versa. If you are looking for an in-depth, hands-on and immersive experience into the culture of Guatemala and have a very personal experience, I urge you to take this tour. It will be the highlight of your trip as it was for us!
