What To Expect
Abra Patapampa
We started very early, at 3:00 am, heading towards Patapampa, the highest point of the route. Here we'll make a brief stop at the Mirador de los Volcanes, from where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the volcanoes and mountain ranges surrounding Arequipa and the Colca Valley.
Chivay
Then we arrived at Chivay, capital of the Colca Valley. Here we will enjoy a comforting breakfast before continuing our journey, crossing beautiful landscapes, pre-Incan terraces, and observing typical flora and fauna of the area.

5.00If you’re looking for a trip that goes far beyond the typical tourist trail, look no further. We booked a multi-day trip to Arequipa and the Valle del Colca through Gondola Tours, and it genuinely exceeded every expectation. From the very start, the staff were warm, professional, and clearly passionate about sharing their region with visitors. Our guides were exceptional, with deep knowledge of local history, traditions, and culture. One of the absolute highlights was being there for a local festive day (Bajada de Reyes) in one of the pueblos (Achoma), where we got to join in the wititi dance with the locals. It was spontaneous, joyful, and the kind of memory you carry with you forever. We never felt like outsiders — everyone made us feel genuinely welcome. The chakra (farm) excursion was another standout. We took part in a pachamanca and pago a la tierra, a beautiful, grounding ritual that connected us to the land and the Andean worldview in a profound way. The food was incredible, fresh, vibrant, and full of flavour. The sweet potato alone was unlike anything I’ve ever tasted! And of course the condors! Watching them soar through the Colca Canyon was breathtaking, a true natural wonder. Throughout the entire trip, the driver drove very safe and comfortable, and every single person we encountered — guides, hosts, locals — made us feel at home. Gondola Tours offers something rare, authentic community-rooted travel that respects local culture while creating extraordinary experiences for visitors. I would recommend them without hesitation to anyone heading to Arequipa or the Colca Valley. Just go, you won’t regret it!!

5.00It is a beautiful experience that I would definitely repeat and recommend 100%. Yeny's family is very friendly and cheerful, the spectacular food, the land payment ceremony and dance, make this experience unique. In addition the travel agency organizing it is super reliable and safe, all the time they were in contact with us and assigned us a guide and an excellent vehicle!
