Mikkeller Bar
At the center of Copenhagen's beating heart in Vesterbro lies an unassuming little cellar bar. This is the site of the very first Mikkeller Bar. Originally founded with an ambition to create the best beer bar in the world, this would come to be the blueprint for multiple locations worldwide. None of this was known back when the bar first opened its doors. Back then, Mikkeller founder and CEO Mikkel Borg Bjergsø had a wish to create a cozy place where beer enthusiasts from all over the world could enjoy not only his own beers, but the absolute best that the beer world had to offer – both old and new.
The Vesterbro area’s main street Istedgade exudes diversity. Between porn shops and strip bars are some of the city's best boutiques, restaurants and bars. For many years, Istedgade was dominated by drugs, porn and prostitutes, but today the famous street has transformed to something else – especially in the end opposite Copenhagen Central Station, while still maintaining some of its authentic vibes in the other.

It was great! Personable, knowledgeable, and willing to give the tour in English even though we were the only Americans ;) which was cool in itself! Fun to see that other Danes make the trip to see things in their own country, too. Good beer, cool to see a neighborhood we wouldn't have otherwise visited.

My wife and I (American expats) thoroughly enjoyed this tour and highly recommend it. Guide Christopher was super knowledgeable and friendly, yet remained professional. He shared interesting background on the interesting neighborhoods we were moving through, and picked some fantastic beers for us to try. Christopher could answer all our questions about the brewers and processes, plus had great tips for where to eat (La Neta in Vesterbro had the best tacos and totopos we've had since leaving the USA; Warpigs had legit BBQ pulled pork, as well as tasty beans and hushpuppies). The whole group was fun and welcoming, despite us speaking no Danish. This tour exceeded our expectations, and we'd happily attend another of Christopher's tours. Thank you, Christopher!
