The married couple who own two adjacent paper studios (and a gallery) were on hand to welcome me (even though I was early) and they together taught the class. They were extremely generous with their time and talents - they’ve been making paper for over 32 years - each! They and the. Photographer and translator were utterly focussed on me - no other students, and they were all incredibly kind and supportive. If I can make it back to Japan, I’d arrange to do this workshop again! When we were done, the owner brought us glasses of refreshingly cool green tea. Then we headed out (the interpreter, photographer and me) to see the shrine of the paper making godess. Had I not had such an early start to the day, I would have enjoyed travelling to the smaller shrine up in the woods. But as it was, we were the only people at the shrine with its magical roof. it was magical !
