La Vanille Nature Park, originally known as La Vanille Crocodile Park, was established in 1985. Its name reflects the old vine cultivated in the valley where the 5-hectare reserve is located. In this enchanting setting, Mauritian hospitality, nature conservation, and animal welfare are prioritized. Our guides will lead you on an unforgettable tour of the reserve. Conservation projects at La Vanille are crucial, as many plant and animal species face extinction due to deforestation, hunting, and invasive species. The park is dedicated to protecting habitats, captive breeding for reintroduction, and farming to reduce the demand for wild-caught animals.

What To Expect
La Vanille Nature Park
Spread over 3.5 hectares in the south of the island, this reserve, which was created in 1985, now allows you to observe the largest colony of turtles, with 1,000 individuals, including Domino , the dean of the reserve and one of the largest turtles in the world. The site is also home to 2,000 Nile crocodiles, the animals can be observed at different stages of their growth. During the visit, you will also have the opportunity to see monkeys, bats, deer, geckos, wild boars and carp ... to name just a few species of the reserve. The park is widely known throughout the island for its insectarium where the work of Jacques Siedlecki is stored; a collection of 23,000 species of beetles, butterflies and other insects for a multitude of shapes and colors. 5.00We had a great, adventurous time tailored to our needs during this private tour. Our knowledgeable guide (and a driver at the same time) Mustafa was incredibly kind, flexible and professional throughout the day. He provided us with lots of valuable insights about the island’s history, culture and wildlife. We are very grateful to Mustafa for making this day truly special to us. He even drove back to our hotel to hand in my phone, which I forgot to take with me at the end of the tour (as I often do…), which I am forever grateful to him and to the local Viator agent, who acted swiftly and efficiently, as soon as we realised I had left my phone in the car. Many thanks Mustafa and Viator!

2.00The buoy activity pulled by the Boat was done in a hurry and the parasailing activity could not be supposedly because of the wind we were told you will see on the Île au Cerf except that the Île au Cerf service provider did not have nothing wanted to hear so 3 places lost and not refunded. 4.00I would have given this trip 5 stars except the food at the restaurant was terrible. Our driver and guide Musafar was amazing and had a wealth of knowledge about the history and present day of the island. We didn’t get to visit two of the destinations on the itinerary as the road was closed for one and the other there wasn’t any parking available but that wasn’t a problem as our guide took us to other spots of equal beauty. If you are lucky enough to get him then I can almost guarantee you won’t be disappointed with the care and attention to details he gives you, can’t praise him enough. I can’t fault anything about this trip other than the restaurant experience so please Saga choose a different place for fellow travellers to eat.
