Your professional English-speaking guide and experienced driver will greet you at your designated location in Datong—either the lobby of your hotel or Datong Railway Station. After a warm welcome, you will board a comfortable private vehicle to start your wonderful day tour. After pick-up, we will head straight to our first destination, the Hanging Temple. The journey takes approximately 1.5 hours, during which your knowledgeable guide will introduce you to the long history, architectural secrets and cultural connotations of the Hanging Temple, allowing you to have a preliminary understanding of this magical ancient building before arrival.

Hengshan Hanging Temple (Xuankong si)

Upon arrival, you will be amazed by this architectural wonder perched on a sheer cliff. Known as one of the "top ten most perilous buildings in the world", the Hanging Temple is a masterpiece of ancient Chinese engineering, with the magical feature of "half-inserted beams as the foundation and cleverly relying on rocks for hidden support". You will see the temple’s exquisite wooden structure, which stands firmly on the cliff without a single nail or drop of cement, and the unique Three Teachings Hall that enshrines Confucius, Laozi and Sakyamuni together—a rare layout in China that embodies the integration of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. Walking along the narrow plank road, you can enjoy the magnificent scenery of the cliff and the valley below, and truly experience the meaning of the local folk song "The Hanging Temple is half the sky high, hanging in the air with three horse tails".
