Daufuskie Island
It begins with a boat ride from Shelter Cove Marina to the back side of Daufuskie Island. The ride is an important part of the tour! Along the way we will stop for dolphins and other wildlife, plus view and discuss the sites on Daufuskie and the neighboring islands that are best seen from the water. Once on Daufuskie, you'll get on golf carts and take a tour of the historic, undeveloped side of the island. We stop at all of the significant historic sites and artisan shops of Daufuskie.

It’s a fairly long boat road. One hour each way but very enjoyable. Dolphins viewed along the way. Bring a jacket.

Relaxing and informative. Can be a little cool and windy on the boat on the trip over so depending on the weather bring a light jacket.

This experience well exceeded any I could have imagined. Dean was a first rate guide, as well as a boat captain. He was a local historian who imparted his knowledge in a fun, engaging, and personal way, making you feel part of his story. This excursion is strongly recommended if you're fortunate enough to have Dean as your guide.

We went on this tour today, with Captain Dean. It was a great experience. Travel time to the island was probably 45-60 minutes each way. We returned after 4.5 hours to the marina. Our captain/guide was very knowledgeable and provided information in the boat and on the golf carts we used for the tour on the island. Highlights were the Mary Field school (nice gift shop, and a drink store), Iron Fish metal outdoor sculpture store, and a Methodist church. Very scenic, very informative. Our whole group loved this tour. Try it!

This was a well planned experience of history of the island. I learned much as we were heading to the island about the marine life. The dolphins were very active that day. I would suggest if planning a trip to the island… go in early spring because the weather was perfect.
