What To Expect

Daufuskie Island

It begins with a boat ride from Shelter Cove Marina to the back side of Daufuskie Island. The ride is an important part of the tour! Along the way we will stop for dolphins and other wildlife, plus view and discuss the sites on Daufuskie and the neighboring islands that are best seen from the water. Once on Daufuskie, you'll get on golf carts and take a tour of the historic, undeveloped side of the island. We stop at all of the significant historic sites and artisan shops of Daufuskie.

Every ounce of this tour was a treasure! Our group of 4 included myself, husband, and our twin teenage boys. And we all thoroughly enjoyed this tour from the moment we stepped onto the boat until our final return. Our guide, Captain Pete, was absolutely phenomenal. He was extremely knowledgeable and empathetic to the Gullah people. We all learned so much history, and how their culture continues to have influence today. We spotted dolphins on the boat going and coming back, and learned so much about the current area, in addition to past. I’m so grateful we had this experience and highly recommend! The tour does include a bottle of water and there is a stop to purchase additional cold beverages. I would recommend taking the morning time slot, as it does get hot.

I’m so happy I went on this adventure! I enjoyed the entire trip. The boat ride to the island was informative and entertaining. The island was completely different than I imagined but I loved it all. We even saw Prophet from the book.

What a great experience! Captain Pete Barbano was an extremely knowledgeable historian and guide. His knowledge of Daufuskie Island and the history of the Gullah was extensive. It was obvious he not only respected the culture, but had also built quality relationships with those on the island. Would highly recommend!

This was a great excursion and our guide was very knowledgeable! We learned a lot about Hilton Head on the way and saw dolphins! The golf cart ride around Daufuskie was fun and we enjoyed all the stops at shops and historical sites! Definitely go early because it gets very hot on the boat in the afternoon!
