What To Expect
Daufuskie Island
It begins with a boat ride from Shelter Cove Marina to the back side of Daufuskie Island. The ride is an important part of the tour! Along the way we will stop for dolphins and other wildlife, plus view and discuss the sites on Daufuskie and the neighboring islands that are best seen from the water. Once on Daufuskie, you'll get on golf carts and take a tour of the historic, undeveloped side of the island. We stop at all of the significant historic sites and artisan shops of Daufuskie.

4.00The island was interesting and our guide had a lot of stories about its residents and its history. It was kind of a long ride from the dock to the island--about 90 minutes--but, somehow, much shorter on the way back. We all agreed we were glad we had gone, but it isn't an excursion we would do again. One of the things that stuck with us all was the incredible amount of labor that goes into making indigo dye. Wow.

5.00We have been to Hilton Head on numerous occasions but had never been to Daufuskie Island. We booked a Daufuskie Island Guided History Tour from Hilton Head tour and we are so pleased we did. Captain Pete gave us an outstanding experience giving us a history of the Hilton Head area in general and Daufuskie Island in particular. His love of the island and its people were quite obvious. As a bonus, we were able to observe a pod of dolphins on the return to Hilton Head. We would highly recommend this tour.

5.00Captain Pete was a wealth of knowledge about the island. We could tell he cares deeply for the island and the residents. His historical knowledge was amazing. The boat ride to and from the island was just as enlightening as the island tour itself. We highly recommend this tour.

5.00This experience was amazing! During the boat ride our captain Pete had a vast amount of knowledge about oysters, dolphins, marshes and the area we were traveling through. The island was so interesting filled with such history and once again captain pete had so much to offer! I would definitely recommend this!

5.00Great day on the water with Captain Pete! His knowledge, dry wit and sense of humor made for a fun afternoon. We saw dolphin, eagles, woodstorks, egrets and more! We learned so much about the Gulla culture and history. Highly recommend!

4.00Beautiful, unique, and historic place. I come from an island on the North Carolina coast and have toured islands from Maine to Florida. Good guide narration, however I researched the island before going. Tour could have covered more areas on island for more sightseeing, and a more comprehensive overall historical, cultural, and geographic experience. etc. I don't consider it complete an island tour as it could have been. Cold and windy on boat. Plastic covers could have been pulled down for more protection making for a more enjoyable ride.
