What To Expect
Debre Libanos Orthodox Church
Its one of the ancient and historical monastery in Ethiopia, Which is lying on northwest of Addis Ababa. The monastery was founded in the 13th century by Saint Tekle Haymanot, according to tradition; he meditated in a cave for 29 years. The monastery complex sits on a terrace between a cliff and the gorge of one of the tributaries of the Abbay River. None of the original buildings of Debre Libanos survive, although David Buxton suspected "there are interesting things still to be found among the neighbouring cliffs." Current buildings include the church over Tekle Haymanot's tomb, which Emperor Haile Selassie ordered constructed in 1961; a slightly older Church of the Cross, where Buxton was told a fragment of the True Cross is preserved; and five religious schools.
Portuguese Bridge
Portuguese bridge near Debre Libanos was erected by the Portuguese in the 16th century; it was actually built at the turn of the 19th century by Ethiopians, albeit in the old Portuguese style. The narrow span makes a pretty picture and the gushing (in the rainy season) cascade just below it is even more impressive

5.00I had a fantastic day with my guides Abe and Joseph and our very skillful driver George! From the moment they picked me up at my hotel, Abe had all kinds of great facts and historical information to share with me. He is a very smart guy and knows Ethiopian history like a professor. He was always smiling and checking in to make sure I was having the best experience possible. Joseph, a very friendly and knowledgeable young guide, came along for the tour as he is training with Abe to be a full guide. Joseph was great and will make a great addition to the team! Highly recommend. Our driver George made sure we had a very smooth and safe ride and I am glad we had him. The team took me to eat a traditional Ethiopian lunch and for coffee on the way home and I ended the day feeling like I made 3 new friends. I couldn’t recommend this tour enough. For anyone doing this tour, make sure to wear sturdy shoes as there is a small amount of walking on a rocky trail. Great work, Abe, Joseph, and George!!!!

5.00I am so pleased to have joined this tour with a day to spare. With just one other passenger, Abe was an excellent, friendly and informative guide. After visiting the monastery, the 'Portuguese Bridge' and the walk along the valley offers spectacular views across the surrounding landscape and is well worth the scramble and the journey. We were treated to a very tasty home-cooked Ethiopian lunch and coffee ceremony overlooking the gorgeous before the journey through attractive scenery back to Addis. An enjoyable, well organised day and well worth it. Thank you to Abe, our driver, and our host at the wonderful little mountaintop cafe. Recommended.

5.00I went on a full day trip with Abe from the airport to the city. I was really satisfied, Abe knows his stuff about the city, country and region and tells it adding his personal life experience which makes it super interesting. With his experience he made the trip super chill and easy, and was available at very short notice just a day before. He is very responsive and flexible and if you have any specific wishes let him know, I am pretty sure he can tailor a trip.

4.00Tour was conducted by Abe Tola. All included attractions were visited and all were worthwhile. Local guides were utilized at both the monastery and the Portuguese Bridge. The roads were in terrible shape during the 5 hours of driving but were safely managed by George the driver. Abe's English was not the best but otherwise was an excellent guide.

5.00I really enjoyed the trip. It is around a 3 hour drive one way as the roads are not on the best condition. The changing landscape was really interesting and Niko was happy to answer questions. The monastery has beautiful stained glass work. The walk to the Portuguese bridge had some stunning views. Unfortunately the monkeys didn't come to the party but I saw their overnight cave. I did see vultures circling & also other birds. Lunch was tasty and interesting. I would recommend this tour if you want to get out of the city.

5.00Abe is a fantastic guide who knows everything about Ethiopia and can explain in a easy manner. We enjoyed a lot learning about the culture, see people's life out of Addis and the nature at the Portuguese bridge is so fantastic. Abe's hospitality made our day.
