Slave House of Togo
The house played a crucial role in the transatlantic slave trade, serving as a grueling place of detention for enslaved individuals awaiting the perilous journey to the Americas, particularly the French colonies. Today, it has been transformed into a museum and memorial, preserving the memory of those who suffered during this dark chapter of history. Visiting the Agbodrafo Slave House offers a profound educational and emotional experience. It serves as a platform to learn about the horrors of the slave trade, celebrate the resilience of African communities, and pay tribute to those who endured immense suffering. The museum's exhibits include artifacts, documents, and exhibits that shed light on this painful period.

We enjoyed the tour up until the car broke down on the return trip. We waited by the side of the road for nearly a hour waiting for the mechanic to come and fix, then we arranged our own ride back to town with other tourists (because it was nearing sunset and we were still an hour outside of Lome). I believe the touring company is responsible for safe and reliable transportation - especially at these prices.

William was a wonderful guide and explained Togo’s unique history and culture in a very engaging way. The tour provides a really cool glimpse into Vodun and its role in Togo’s cultural identity.

Rather average experience. Guide did not tell any stories, everything is based on local guides at visited places. Voodoo market is total fake with one of sellers telling about things they sell there. It stinks there. The guide inflated my lunch check. The total experience was 4 hours and not full day

It was a wonderful experience of Lake Togo. I went alone and the guide was flexible. Communication was smooth and helpful. The religious experience in Togoville is special.

We arrived via cruise ship. We were picked up at the port as agreed. The tour took us to all the places as described. Our guide spoke good English but he was a bit reserved, maybe somewhat disinterested as the day went on. There was a local guide at each of the stops who explained what we were seeing. There was an expectation of a tip for each of these guides. Of course, tipping was optional. Some in the group tipped, others didn't. We stopped at a restaurant where there was a buffet lunch (our own expense). We asked to go someplace for a beer and a snack instead, which we did. I have to warn that the fetish market might be offensive to some people. There are tables with animal heads and other parts lined up as this is all part of voodoo rituals.

This tour was not advertised. Private tour meant your party was the only ones in the car but all cars filled with groups from our ship were to travel together. If someone needed to stop we all stopped. This is not a private tour. No WiFi or water was available. Air conditioning was open windows in very poorly maintained vehicles. The battery in our vehicle died at the first stop, the Fetish Market. Another battery was installed. So our driver and guide decided to drive us to Togoville. After about 2 hours we hadn’t arrived but the battery died again because the alternator wasn’t charging the battery. We were in the middle of nowhere on a dirt road. The driver had to wait for a motorbike to come by and give him a ride to the nearest village to get another battery. When he got back he installed the battery. The car started and immediately died again. This time the vehicle was out of gas. Again we had to wait for a motorbike to come by so that the guide could find a taxi to take us back to the ship. We did make it back to the ship before sailing but saw nothing except the Fetish Market. We should receive a refund for this trip because we did not see what was listed as sights we would see. By the way when I finally got WiFi it seems that we were not even on the right road to Togoville. No wonder we just kept driving seeing nothing but one or two little houses once in a while. When the people in the other cars asked where we were, they were told we were having a nice lunch which was not true. What a disappointing tour.

I loved this tour! I booked it the day before and even if my hotel was not in the list of pick-up location they picked me up from where I was staying. Very professional tour operator. Seli (the guide) was very friendly and gave me a lot of explanation about the places we were visiting and the Togo culture. He bought for me some street African food to try and we had a traditional togolese lunch! He was always with me and I felt safe at all time! It is a perfect tour to get a quick insight into the country and culture. I definitely recommend it!

We went with Kossi to Aneho and Togoville. The trip was well facilitated, comfortable and very informative. The lunch stop at Miadjoe in Aneho was great, although there wasn't much else to see. The boat ride across lake Togo to Togoville and the tour of the town were wonderful.

Would recommend this tour if you’re looking for a good understanding of the culture and history of Togo. The company was extremely professional and even helped me navigate issues around a cancelled flight.
