Eastern European Experience

We set off from Bucharest and head to Sinaia following the scenic Prahova Valley. Upon arrival in Sinaia, called "Pearl of the Carpathians" due to the beauty of its natural setting and the elegance of its architecture, visit the Peles Castle, former summer residence of the Romanian Royal Family and emblematic of the Romanian Royalty. Leaving the castle head to the 300 years old Sinaia Monastery, the historic soul of the city of Sinaia and precious monument of Romanian Art. Drive on to Bran to visit the famous medieval castle built as a fortress - The "Dracula's Castle" - for the citizens of Brasov with view to defend the city. Prince Vlad used the Castle as a general headquarters during his incursions in Transylvania. For many years, it has been an interesting medieval art museum. Surrounded by an aura of mystery and legend and perched high atop a 200-foot-high rock, Bran Castle owes its fame to its imposing towers and turrets as well as to the myth created around Bram Stoker's Dracula. Built on the site of a Teutonic Knights stronghold dating from 1212, the castle was first documented in an act issued by Louis I of Hungary on November 19, 1377, giving the saxons of Kronstadt (Brasov) the privilege to built the Citadel. Although Stoker never visited Transylvania, the Irish author relied on research and his vivid imagination to create the dark and intimidating stomping ground of Count Dracula, leading to persistent myths that it was once the home of Vlad Tepes, ruler of Walachia. While the association with Dracula is sketchy at best, the castle continues to hold a strong attraction for all fans of the Count. After the visit you will enjoy time at leisure in the souvenir market. After a short drive you will reach the city of Brasov. Fringed by the peaks of the Southern Carpathian Mountains and resplendent with Gothic, baroque and renaissance architecture, as well as a wealth of historical attractions, Brasov is one of the most visited places in Romania. Founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1211 on an ancient Dacian site and settled by the Saxons as one of the seven walled citadels, Brasov exudes a distinct medieval ambiance and has been used as backdrop in many recent period films. In this city, we are surrounded by legends of vampires and medieval stories. Here you will enjoy a walking tour through the old town centre, including the Black Church, the Council Square, the Hircher House and the baroque style building from the Austro-Hungarian times. During the walking tour you will pass by the Black Church, the largest Gothic cathedral between Vienna and Istanbul. Start driving back to Bucharest in the late afternoon.

  • I am glad we did this day trip

Very good day out to Transylvania. It’s a long day but we thought well worth it to leave Bucharest for a day as part of our short break. I was sent the meeting point by What’s App the night before with all details and guides contact. Do be on time and check the meeting location in advance - as being late is understandably not appreciated. Sonia was our guide and provided information throughout the trip and clear instructions at each of our stops. Be aware on Monday Peles Castle is closed - we did know this and still enjoyed walking in the grounds by the castle. Braşov was the next stop, with time for lunch and a walk around. Then onto Bran Castle, which was busy but myself and teenage son greatly enjoyed the tour inside the castle. You can get tickets at the entrance, including by card machines. Do take ID like passport as my son is 18 and still at school and so does not have a student card and is a lower rate than college and university students. Then we had the trip back to Bucharest and a chance to enjoy the scenery and relax before arriving back in the traffic filled City. I am glad we did this trip.

It was a big group (a full 50+ coach) and there were issues with people hogging seats. You need your wits about you to keep an eye on where the guide is as otherwise it’s easy to get separated and lost from the group. Other than that, it was an enjoyable and worthwhile day out from the city.

  • All must-go in Romania in a single day!

The guide, Eugene, was very nice and he explained lots of interesting things about Romania during the tour. You will visit so many places in single day! I would recommend bringing something to eat/drink, as the lunch break may be quite late. Also, keep in mind that the castles we visit are on the mountains, somewhat cooler than Bucharest.

Lovely tour guide, well planned stops and a comfortable bus for the journey. Lots of walking and not accessibility friendly due to age of construction of most of the buildings. But absolutely beautiful if able to tackle steep gradients and several flights of stairs. We had a wonderful time, would consider going again.

  • This trip is worth seeing for the Peles castle alone!

The castle of Peles was impressive. The 2nd castle of Pelisor nearby is also worth seeing, but is nothing like Peles. Bran Castle I personally expected more of, but was perhaps because it was already the 3rd castle. Was also very busy with many people at the castle at the same time. The city of Brasov is a nice city to walk around in although it was very hot that day. We were not able to visit the black church because of a concert at that time. The guide Sonia was a good guide who provided us with info and explanations all day. It was not obvious to get to the castle of Peles in time that day because of a lot of traffic jams. It was a holiday weekend at Pentecost. Afterwards it was more relaxed for everyone. Highly recommended to do!

An excellent day , it is a very long day pick up at 7 drop back at 10. With that said it was the most amazing trip, highly recommend. Pay to go into both castles worth every penny. A lot if travelling involved between places we took travel pillows to sleep. The guide is informative

Anna was a fantastic guide, I could not rate this tour or Anna high enough. We had plenty of time at each stop, the information and stories along the way were second to none. The updates through watsapp for meeting points and time made everything so much easier. If you are thinking about booking......DO IT!!

The organisation of the tour was perfect, the information about meeting time, pick up points, entrance to the castles, etc. was always crystal clear and the whole journey on the bus felt safe and convenient. Ana was our guide and she went above and beyond to not only give us a fun tour, but also a very interesting and informative one. She is eager to answer any question and give useful tips for an overall enjoyable stay in the city. I could really not ask for a more satisfying experience while in Bucharest.
