Dating back to 1563, the Alter Sudfriedhof is the final resting place of some of the city's most prominent historical figures. As you take in its serene ambience, you'll unearth stories of the lives (and deaths) of the people who helped to shape modern-day Munich, as well as tales of the macabre including: the Plague, torture and execution, political revolts, WWII, tragic accidents, and more. Yes, we even have a few ghost stories to share along the way as well. Pass by lively cafes and boutiques before visiting the city's best chocolate shop where you will indulge is a hot drinking chocolate of the gods. Begin your journey into the deathly netherworld at this early 14th century city gate. Uncover the dark and bloody secrets leading earning it the nickname of Devil's Gate. You will also visit a memorial dedicated to those who have died from a deadly virus.
Stroll through the trendy neighbour of Glockenbachviertel - a bustling district full of cozy cafes where the locals love to enjoy life on the area's many sunny terraces. Here you will live deliciously and visit the the city's best chocolate shops and indulge in a sinful drinking chocolate of the gods. In this area you will also visit subtle reminders of fallen icons and victims of the Nazi regime.

I am very bad at remembering names so do not remember the guides name but she was super sweet.Learned some very interesting things and it was such a beautiful place to visit. We went for ice cream after instead of hot chocolate, which was absolutely amazing. I would recommend this tour.

Our guide was incredibly informative and brought the history of the area to life with engaging stories and thoughtful explanations. It was fascinating to learn so much about the people and events connected to this unique place. We also loved the cozy break for a sit‑down hot chocolate at the boutique—it was the perfect warm and comforting way to wrap up the tour. Highly recommend!

5.00This was a different Munich tour compared to other tours around the Marienplatz and just what we wanted. The neighbourhood was a short stroll from the Viktualmarkt. A bonus was we spotted numerous interesting looking cafes and restaurants. That alone is a good reason to go back. The tour that focuses on the people and history of the old South Cemetry was quirky, interesting and informative. Our guide Katrina was a friendly and knowledgeable host. And her recommendation for the best hot chocolate to finish the tour was spot on. Would definitely book another BlackBook Tour again next time we’re in Munich.

5.00A unique way to learn about the history of Munich while surrounded by the final resting place of those who made said history! Katrina is extremely knowledgeable, insightful, and clearly passionate about the graves, memorials, and crypts found in Alter Südfriedhof. We enjoyed the tour so much, we came back to the cemetery on our own later just to continue wandering the grounds! The hot chocolate was a decadent bonus to round out the tour. If you’re looking for a hidden gem of a tour in Munich, this is it!
