Door County’s northern peninsula is a blend of small coastal villages, quirky oddities, and natural beauty. This self-guided driving tour takes you through the county’s most scenic landscapes, from Bailey’s Harbor on Lake Michigan to Fish Creek on Green Bay, while you listen to fascinating stories along the way.
The tour starts at Anclam Town Park in Bailey’s Harbor. I’ll show you the area where Door County’s settlement began, when Captain Justice Bailey sought shelter from a storm in 1848. As you drive along the peninsula, you’ll travel through historic fishing villages, and visit scenic overlooks perched high above the water.
Once you’ve completed a loop of the northern thumb, including stops at Sister Bay, Ellison Bay, and Fish Creek, the tour ends at Wood Orchard Market near Egg Harbor. Along the way, you’ll discover the perfect mix of natural beauty and local culture, and hear some of the stories behind this “Cape Cod of the Midwest.“

If you decide to stop and explore like we did it took us 5 hours. We had never been to Door County before so it was a perfect way to see the peninsula..

We did this on a rainy blustery fall day and it was perfect. The drive was fantastic. it took us into areas we wouldn't have thought to go. We learned the history of the people and the area. The sites were beautiful even in the rain. we'd do it again and will definitely get his guides road trips again.

We had some technical issues right from the start as the narrative did not work as we passed through each point of interest. We called the number and to our surprise on a Sunday, the president answered and talked us through the steps for resolving the issue by downloading the program again. It could well have been that I did not properly download the program completely on my own. Anyway, after an initial delay, we got the program running. We enjoyed the narrative as it gave us the history and points of interest that we wouldn’t have seen on our own. Finally, I couldn’t figure out how to pause the program and restart as it wasn’t intuitive for me. Again, it could have been operator error. Conclusion: Buy the program and download it completely before starting. It’s worth the money and effort. Happy trails!

Easy to set up, easy to follow… money well spent! Provided information and details we would never had known going on our own otherwise.

Wonderful way to explore Door County. I purchased both the North and the South Penninsula tours, and although they are noted to be about 3 hours long each, I actually took 3 days to complete them both and loved them. The byroads and insider notes were fascinating and helpful, and the self guided tour leaves lots of opportunity to explore further (which I did considerably). David does a wonderful job of guiding you safely through the twisty bendy roads and pointing out interesting places. I also loved learning the history of the settlements, the shipyards, the lighthouses and the farming families of the area. It is unlikely that I would have found many of these places on my own, and following the tour made for a very enjoyable 3 days. Thanks!

We enjoyed the narrated route and we were glad to be able to pause and explore a little at certain points. We would recommend this and plan to use this app again.

I downloaded the tour and it did not work at all. The map showed up but no audio and the directions had me headed towards a destination the was out of the boundries of Door County.

We had a problem with my husband’s power chair not working at the boarding site. I completely freaked out inside, but the staff and crew were calming and so willing to help. The cruise was interesting, narrated with historical knowledge and humor. The only quibble is that the lower portion of the canvas surround makes it impossible to see much of anything unless you stand up or look behind the boat.

We had never done a tour like this before, and even though we had been to door county several times, we were pleasantly surprised that the tour showed us places we didn't even know were there. We had a great time and enjoyed learning more about the area. Our favorite stops were the Range Lights, and also Peach Barn farmhouse brewery which wasn't part of the tour but was on the way. $20 was an excellent price for a great day.
