Amarante's sweets and cakes are extremely famous and you will have the opportunity to taste them at a well known cake-shop.

Pedro was an amazing guide. He knew so much about the area, history and everything. And we lucked out and it turned out to just be my husband and myself, so we had a private tour! Everything was included in the price and Pedro took great care of us.

What a fantastic day trip. Pedro, your guide, is knowledgeable, informative, welcoming, generous and genuine. He provides an excellent introduction to everything the Douro Valley has to offer, with lunch and wine tasting included. Visiting the beautiful Mateus Palace was a highlight I'll never forget.

A very interesting day with a nice mix of places on the tour. Pedro was a very good host and couldn't have been more helpful. He has a wide knowledge of the sites we visited and scheduled our timings to avoid the worst of the crowds.

This was our third tour with Pedro, this time with 2 young ladies. Picked up in front of our apartment for a drive to the picturesque little village of Amarante, a highly regarded foodie and wine region. This is the hometown of Portugal’s Valentine, with the picturesque Rio Tamega running under a medieval bridge leading us to the 13thC Sao Gonçalo Church and monastery. After our tour and history lesson it was not a surprise to find ourselves in a local café for a coffee and a tasting of their town’s famous sweets and cakes! It was then on to the Mateus Palace, with its magnificent baroque architecture, and a walk in their massive garden estate, and to finish with a tasting, not of the ubiquitous rose of the 1960’s, but two red wines our host had selected!! The highlight of the tour followed – lunch in the Favaois Estate… for which black tie/pearls for the ladies would not have been overdressing for such a repast, and in such a setting! Fully sated, it was a pleasant drive down to Pinhao, and the right bank of the Duoro River for a 1hour round trip cruise on a traditional Rabello boat, to be able to fully appreciate the setting and viniculture of this appellation, before our return trip to Porto via the picturesque and N222 scenic drive! A gold medal to those who do not doze off!! Another superb day!

We had an amazing experience with Pedro. I went with my husband and two kids, aged five and eight. Pedro made us feel like family. He’s very knowledgeable about Portugal and made us feel very safe. He made sure the kids were entertained, comfortable, and learned along the way. He treated my kids like his own. He even came equipped with snacks and drinks since it was a very long day. If you’re looking for a family friendly tour of Douro Valley, I would highly recommend Pedro.

Ours was a private tour just for the 2 of us. Our first trip to Portugal. Pedro was the best guide we’ve had in our travels. I told him he spoiled it for all other guides. Picked us up on time, kept us entertained and informed throughout the day. His knowledge of wine making is vast as his family owns such a business. Lunch was delicious as well as the wines ( we had/tasted 5 different varieties). Coffee break was a wonderful stop. He said we were his guests for the day. we could not we have asked for a better host. I read too many awful reviews of similar tours before splurging on a private one. So happy I did. Just book it. Don’t hesitate.
