Kalamata's surroundings are occupied by a vast olive grove with trees outnumbering the residents of the city. The olive grove is so close and yet so far from the city surrounded by traffic-free cycling routes and beautiful nature. Our guided e-bike tour here is a journey through one of the world’s best olive-producing regions and a sensational adventure exploring a unique lush landscape. Moreover, the electric bikes will allow you to pedal effortlessly so that you can fully enjoy the beauty of the area. Finishing with a richly flavorsome picnic lunch seasoned with some of the finest extra virgin olive oil, this is an e-bike tour that will linger in your memory long after you’ve left the region.

What To Expect

Your ride starts at Explore Messinia'soffice in the city center of Kalamata where you meet your bike guide. Your e-bikes are here ready to adjust them to your size. You get a safety briefing and a short instructions course on the route and you are ready to set off. You enter the heart of the Kalamata olive grove with naturally carved trunks of centennial trees. The route runs along cycle paths, dirt roads, and secondary paved roads. The bike ride returns to the picturesque Othonos city square, where you can indulge in our delicious picnic lunch. Starting with the basics of extra virgin olive oil tasting you will have the opportunity to learn more about this local produce and definitely love it while pairing it with freshly baked bread, olives, local cheese andfresh vegetables. To complete a super fun day the tour will end with a glass of wine or a soft drink for the younger riders.

We had a great time with Fotis , our guide . Being at the end of the season, our group was limited to our couple , which gave us an almost private tour. Very nice experience, I recommend it

We had an amazing time with Fotios on this Ebike olive route tour at Kalamata.. Fotios is warm with great personality. He truly showed us the authentic part of Greece, which we had been looking for. Through him, we had seen the hundreds years old olive tree garden, tasted the sweetest fig, got to know Greek people and their life. He even prepared some home made treats for us. Highly recommend this tour to those who wants to see the real Greece.

Whether you are an experienced e-bike rider or this is your first go, the ride around Kalamata and the Olive groves is an amazing day out. From the get go you are taken care of by a fabulous guide - in our case the amazing Trifonas - who will show you how the bike works and how to ride. The trip will take you around the area in both rural, off road and city surroundings, but always safe and within your capabilities. So much beauty but also a glimpse into everyday life in the region. A lot of information and valuable tips along the way and the trip ended in the train museum with a wonderful lunch containing amongst other things Trifonas’ own olive oil- what a treat! Such a great day out and excellent value for money.

Fotis was our tour guide and he was super knowledgeable about the olive trees and gardening and explained us so much, also about the Greek culture. An absolute recommendation to book such a tour. You will not only see nature and be active but also learn more about the culture and the people who live here.

We have only good words to say about our e-bike trip in Kalamata’s beautifully olive groves. To large extent this is due to Fotis who not only guided us through the groves with his seemingly unlimited knowledge on how effectively produce olives and olive oil and the conditions surrounding this but he also provide us with interesting insights of the Greeks manners and thinking as well as the traditional culture in Kalamata. The only regrettable thing is that we didn’t make this e-bike tour in the beginning of our visit in Kalamata.

We had such a great time on the two trips we took with Explore Messinia in April 2025! First, the kayaking trip from Kardamyli was incredible! Not only was the nature stunning, but we also learned so much about the history and geology of the region from our wonderful, warm, patient and encouraging guides, all people from the region willing to share their lives and home region with us. We even swam in a cave :) Second was the e-bike trip in the Kalamata olive groves, which was beautiful, fun and another learning experience, with a fun and warm guide who not only helped us with some tips on mountain biking, but also shared his life and knowledge with us about Kalamata, regional traditions and food, olive trees and growing olives. I highly recommend Explore Messinia and hope to be back for another trip with them!

I can’t say enough good things about this trip. Our guide was wonderful and accommodating in every way. The trip itself was varied—from city to village to olive grove. What a morning! The conversation and willingness to share Kalamata and Greek culture/customs with us was really the icing on the cake. My family—2 adults, 2 kids (12, 14) had never ridden e-bikes before and we all were fine to do this trip.,Would absolutely recommend to friends and would love to return someday.

We loved the Olive Routes of Kalamata e-bike tour. The ride was beautiful, the equipment was great, and the guide, Fotis, was superb. He shared so much with us all along the route, and his pride in and love for his town and the Greek culture was obvious and contagious. We highly recommend this activity if you're in Kalamata!!
