The Early Birding tour led by Stevenson of Jacamar Naturalist Tours was an incredible experience. Stevenson said his goal was to get us 50 bird species, and we ended with 64! Stevenson was incredibly knowledgeable, exceptionally helpful with his IDs, and he tried very diligently to help us see motmots and antshrikes, even though it was late in the tour. We even saw multiple nocturnal and rare birds as we began the tour and ended the tour. Moreover, the homemade breakfast is delicious and not to be missed! All in all, Stevenson was an incredible guide and this tour is not to be missed if you consider yourself any level of bird enthusiast and you are staying in Guanacaste!

An excellent alternative for nature enthusiasts who want to do something different than hanging out at the beach all day. We spent time at three different habitats- open fields, forest, and river and saw over 40 species of birds including a black headed trogon, turquoise browed motmot, crested caracara, bare throated tiger heron, yellow naped amazon, scarlet macaw, and ferruginous Pygmy owl- all firsts for me! Our guide Gabriel was excellent, pleasant to spend hours with, and worked tirelessly to get us a look at the Pygmy owl.

We were picked up at exactly 5 AM and spent the next six hours travelling around seeing amazing birds as the sun came up over Guanacaste. We saw 42 species of birds and were given interesting facts about the different areas, the trees, the animals, and various conservation efforts. Stevenson was knowledgable, patient, and encouraging and Luis was an excellent driver. The breakfast at the end was delicious. Highly recommend; we would come back and do another tour with them next time we’re here. Gracias!

I was picked up at my hotel and driven to a beautiful Costa Rican Hacienda where we searched for birds and other wild life. The morning ended with a tasty traditional breakfast. Highly recommend the tour!

I’ve never been on a bird watching tour before, so I don’t know how it compares, but I will say that it was really good. Our guide, Mauricio, was great - seemed to really know how to find birds, pointing out birds that we had no idea were right there. He mimicked their calls, and they would answer (and also faked out the Merlin app). It was pretty amazing. One down side is that the tour is in an active cattle ranch, so you have to watch where you step. The breakfast at the end was really good too. Highly recommended.

We love birds but can't call ourselves experienced birds watchers thus finding the right guide is very important to us. Julio Guadamuz +50688249922 [email protected] is the guide that can provide proper service either to novice or professor of ornithology. Julio has extensive knowledge of birds, animals and pants of Costa Rica. Not to mention his personality - opened, with sense of humour and kind. We spent splendid five hours looking for and finding birds, talking about medicinal uses of local vegetation and observing sediment digging "industry" in River Tempisque. Thank you, Julio!
