The Emily and Jessie Gaps Nature Park

Your next visit will be Emily and Jessie Gaps. Yeperenye / Emily and Jessie Gaps Nature Parks are the first noticeable features of the East MacDonnell Ranges as you drive 16 kilometres out of Alice Springs. The two small gaps in the Heavitree Range are important spiritual sites to the Eastern Arrernte Aboriginal people. Many places in the surrounding landscape are associated with the same caterpillar Dreamtime story and form a 'Dreaming Trail'. Emily Gap is a significant sacred site where the caterpillar beings of Mparntwe (Alice Springs) originated. These caterpillars formed Emily Gap, and many of the topographic features around Alice Springs radiated out to the edge of the Simpson Desert. At Emily Gap, you can see a large rock painting depicting the caterpillar dreaming.

We did two different tours with Mr Marshmallow (Mike,Muhesh).East and West MacDonell and tours of city To give you full context .We had booked a full tour package with Discouveraustralia months in advance with Ghan train from adelaide, tours in alice springs and uluru for 10 days . On arriving in Alice springs we discovered our 2 tours in Alice springs were cancelled by the "big vendors ", even though prepaid (AAT kings tours Australia and newzealand and Emu run tours . ATT canceling a few days before we arrived in Alice springs , the EMu run tours on arriving in alice springs. Both stating not enough particiants.(NOT OUR CONCERN THEY SHOULDNT HAVE BOOKED US AND ACCEPTED MONEY) Needless to say we were left high and dry with 4 days in Alicesprings - no tours and no other help offered. Then we saw Alice holiday tours brochure in dessert palms lobby. We called spoke to Mike and were delighted that we did. We also met up with other guest who had been stranded like ourselves. Mike did a full tour with the exact same highlights' we were supposed to have done with the original tour operators. We were only 4 people but Mike stuck to his word and did the tour. (NO CANCELLING POLICY -A MAN OF HIS WORD !!!) He has a passion for aboriginal culture and was an immense wealth of knowledge. He saved the day for our 4 days Alice springs portion of our trip. Brilliant job Mike - you are locally owned and operated and are fully invested in your mission to provide expert tours around alice springs and to uluru. Will advise all our friends to book direct with you to avoid disappointment from the so called "big tour operators " Big thankyou for Dr Kamal Singh Powar , Dr Nikki Powar,

This was a wonderful tour. Our guide was happy to change the date for our tour at short notice due to impending bad weather. He still took the tour even though there was just the two of us. Guide was very informative , great knowledge and respectful of the East Arrernte people and their traditions and stories. He was diligent in ensuring we had enough time to see the areas we were taken too. We were never rushed and were supported as we did the walks especially when it started to drizzle when we were walking to the top and back of the Trephina Gorge. We highly recommend this Tour .

A great way to see the East MacDonnell Ranges sights if you don't have access to a vehicle. The sites visited are not included on other tours which was the reason we chose this tour. We enjoyed all the walks and locations we visited. Mahesh was very knowledgeable and put out an excellent morning tea for us. Very pleased he ran the tour for us as we were the only ones booked in that morning.

  • Great Informative tour

This was a great tour and Marshmallow (Mahesh) was an excellent personable guide. He went out of his way to share information and visit extra tour sites along the way. We would travel with Alice Holiday Tours again.
