If you’re looking for a wonderful way to explore Waiheke Island, I can’t recommend cycling enough! The scenery is gorgeous, and even in the middle of winter, a sunny day makes for a truly enjoyable ride. The team at eRide were so friendly and helpful, and the bike was both comfortable and easy to use. Navigating with the map was straightforward—I didn’t even need my phone. I tried most of the 5 bays ride, enjoyed a delicious lunch in Onetangi, and ended my day with a glass of wine at Mudbrick, which offers some of the best vineyard views on the island. All in all, it was a fantastic day out!

Reserving the bikes was an easy process, but it doesn't save you much time when you pick them up. Two other walk-up parties arrived at the same time, causing quite a bit of work for the two guys handling the orientation and intake processes. I was impressed with the communication process through Trip Advisor and Viator, letting us know what to expect and allowing us to follow up with a possible lost item from a prior booked tour. All in all, the experience was acceptable. There are several hills to climb that require a good amount of stamina and physical fitness. Consequently, we had to cut our trip short and did not make it to the area on the eastern end of the route. The phone holder worked great. Some areas on the island have spotty mobile connections, so we were glad to have the paper map as a backup.

Absolutely the BEST way to visit Waiheke Island! Don't waste your time on a bus with a bunch of strangers. Go at your own pace with lots of stops and no other people in your group! The Bikes have plenty of zip to help get up the hills and the battery easily lasted the 5 hours we had the bikes. They provided the helmet, pannier (storage) and bike lock. They gave great directions and this was our FAVORITE day in New Zealand. No hurry, no hassle. We went to several beaches, got ice cream (twice!) and had lunch and a wine tasting along the way. HIGHLY recommend renting e-bikes and getting in the fresh air to enjoy the sights!
Very under powered bikes for steepness of hills at waiheke island

Bikes were very under powered had to walk a lot as couldn’t make it up the hills. (Side note-we own electric bikes that could be used successfully at waiheke island) Wife fell off as a result and broke her arm. Only had the bikes for a short time as a result. Definitely would not recommend.
