Mount Etna
Along the trail that will take us up to 2000mt a.s.l., our guide will tell you about how the highest volcano in Europe was born, without leaving the aspects related to flora and fauna that characterize it. After admiring old and new lava flows we will proceed on foot to the inner part of old craters. The charming panorama and the picturesque scenery will give us the feeling of being on the moon. After a short break, the hike will continue with a visit, carrying helmet and torch, inside a lava cave to admire a unique spectacle. Walking through a luxuriant vegetation, we will finally admire the spectacular Valle del Bove.

We had a great time! Etna was beautiful with the snow and this trip was a perfect way for our family (7yo and 10yo kids) to learn about the vulcano and see the craters up close. The kids loved the cave too. Thanks to our guide Elio for a great day, we will definitely be back!

Loved the trip. Despite rather cloudy weather. But also shocked to discover that Etna is covered in deep snow at this time of year. So the hike was pretty challenging. Footwear with more grip and trousers that were a barrier to snow going into shoes would have been preferable. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable going into detail about the geological changes over time.

Involves climbing and small spaces (cave). We had snow so the visibility was limited but still a wonderful experience. Daphne was our guide and she is excellent and was very knowledgeable and helpful for those who were not as "fit" as others.. Would go again!

We participated in the morning trip to Etna, 4 adults and 2 children. Wonderful experience, Carmelo, the guide, gave us a lot of information and above all made us feel the love that the inhabitants of here have for this beautiful volcano... we fell in love too and will return to make the visit to the summit craters always with them. Etna east straconsigliato! Thanks for everything!!!

So much was great about this experience. First, as it happens I’m visiting Catania during an unusually wet period. In fact, I started to doubt Mt. Etna even existed until yesterday when a break in the rain unveiled its splendor. My first trip was canceled because of the rotten weather. The service was so apologetic, but when there’s hail storms at sea level I can only imagine what it must have been like at the top. I couldn’t do the make-up date, but they were accommodating allowing me to do the tour the following weekend. I booked the Italian tour because I’m trying to give myself immersive experiences to get stronger in the language as a personal goal. While my Italian speaking isn’t great, I generally can understand maybe 85% — still, everyone associated with the tour was extremely patient with the American with poor Italian language skills. The guide spoke at a normal pace and annunciated so I understood almost everything. They also came to a hotel not on the list a ways out in Aci Castello, something I didn’t expect — they even arrived 10 minutes earlier than I expected and we were off. The views going up the mountain are breathtaking, and surprisingly, there are some really beautiful towns on Etna’s slopes with lots of wineries (I wish I had a list, I want to try all of them) and citrus orchards. The highlight was a lava tube cave — pretty cool, and thankfully, there were no bats. You do have to watch your step and duck a lot, if you are over 6’4 maybe it’s not for you. The really rough part was that I have a bit of asthma and I live like 20 feet above sea level, so being around 10,000 ft above was a lot for me. I was feeling a bit of altitude sickness (lightheaded, out of breath) by the time we reached the base camp (or, base gift shops and restaurants, but base camp sounds better). I asked if they’d let me stay below at the restaurant and they were so nice about it. I was kind of embarrassed, I admit, but it was for the best. Listen to your body, as they say. Even though I didn’t do “the hike” to the crater, I’m still very happy with the experience overall, it was totally worth it.
