Palais des Papes
Dominating the skyline of Avignon, the Palais des Papes is one of the largest Gothic palaces in Europe and a symbol of the city’s prestigious past as the seat of the papacy in the 14th century. Its monumental architecture, fortified walls, and vast courtyards create an impressive setting that immediately captures attention. Visitors are drawn to its powerful presence, which reflects both spiritual authority and political influence. From the outside, the palace offers exceptional photo opportunities, especially from the surrounding squares where its scale can be fully appreciated. It stands as a centerpiece of Avignon’s UNESCO-listed heritage.
Pont Saint-Benezet
Known worldwide through the famous song “Sur le pont d’Avignon,” this medieval bridge is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. Originally spanning the Rhône River, only a few arches remain today, creating a unique and picturesque silhouette. The bridge is steeped in legend and history, making it a must-see for visitors. Its position along the river provides excellent viewpoints for photography, especially at sunset when the light reflects on the water and surrounding stone structures.

Zahra was such a knowledgeable and joyful guide! She started our experience by sharing the history of Avignon, before immersing us in the culture and food. Her appreciation for her city and the local products it produces is at the heart of this experience. We only had one day in Avignon, and it was well spent! This is the first thing everyone should do when they arrive to really get to know the city. Thank you Zahra!
