What To Expect
Santa Maria
Santa Maria Salt Flats It consists of a protected area covering 69 hectares. Santa Maria was founded in 1830 for the production of salt. Up to 30,000 tons of salt were shipped from Santa Maria each year.
Murdeira
This is a small village on the island of Sal, once a small fishing village. Nowadays it is a private development that led to the construction of a tourist village by the sea. The village is situated on the west coast, 8 km south of the island's capital Espargos and 10 km north of Santa Maria. Approximately halfway along the island's main highway.

5.00We booked the full day tour, turtle watch & horseriding through Emmanuel & couldn’t be happier. Emmanuel was so friendly & gave us lots of tips & useful info & made sure we were collected on time each day & checked we had enjoyed each experience. For the tour our guide was Patrick & we couldn’t have asked for a friendlier more knowledgeable & personable guide. He was fantastic & genuinely such a lovely person. Thank you both for giving us such great experiences.

Apart from the facts about the highlights of Sal visited, lots of background information about life, culture and what is already on the mind of the islanders. 5.00Wow! What a tour we had! Kendall picked us up promptly from the hotel at 9:30am and we had an action packed full day tour! First stop lemon sharks, this was great fun. Bit difficult getting out into the sea, very rocky and uneven under foot but once in it was amazing having the sharks swim between ur legs Then on to a birds-eye view of the salt lakes. This was a stunning location! Quick tour round the bay where the salt was transported down via cable cars Tour round Palmeira, Espargo and the shanty town. Kendall providing excellent commentary around the area Next stop- Buracona. This was amazing. We had been before but wanted to spend a bit longer here this time. At no point did Kendall hurry us along, the tour was done at our pace (which is great when you have kids) Here we saw whales and dolphins out at sea! Magical experience Then on to lunch at O Ninho Dos Piratas- we saw whales again! Before we left this location Kendall suggested a bit of snorkelling. This was a great spot and snorkelling very much enjoyed. This input and suggestions is invaluable when you are on a tour. We really felt like Kendall didn’t want us to miss out on any opportunities Next on the list was Kite Beach. This was somewhere we’d ask could we visit and Mayara and Kendall had no issues fitting it into our itinerary. It was busy here with kite surfers (obviously) but they were fantastic to watch for a while Lastly we visited the Salinas close to Santa Maria. This was late in the afternoon so no one was working at the time but they had a stand with an honesty box so you could take a sample of the salt with you. Returned to the hotel after 5pm with a lovely bottle of homemade foot salt soak gift. We cannot recommend Logan Tours enough. For this trip, it was €150 for a family of 4. All the communication and suggestions from Mayara were exceptional. This was excellent value for money. We did pay €12 at the lemon sharks and €9 at Buracona for entrance fees but when compared to large tour operators this price is still lower, yet the quality of the tour is top notch What we liked most was Kendall worked with us at our pace. Even down to sitting in the back of the truck when it was blowing a gale, he slowed right down so we didn’t get blown away! We never felt rushed to move from one location to another. Kendall’s knowledge is outstanding. Thank you Kendall and Mayara for providing us with a tour which will never be forgotten 💙
