Learn to surf on the beaches of São Miguel in the Azores! Few people know that in Europe we have our own Hawaii. We are talking about the Azores Islands: an archipelago of nine islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean that is part of Portugal.

It's volcanic origin means that we find dreamlike cliffs, paradisiacal beaches and beautiful natural parks, some of them with thermal waters such as Terra Nostra Park. The capital of the Azores is São Miguel, an island that receives thousands of tourists every year looking for a change of scenery through its hiking trails or surfing. If there's anything like Hawaii.

It's that the Azores, and São Miguel in particular, is one of the best places in Europe for surfing. If you've never surfed before, now's your chance to learn!

What To Expect

The surf teachers of Azores Watergliders surf club offer you their knowledge in these surf lessons in São Miguel for beginners and intermediate level. Choosing two of the best surfing beaches in São Miguel, Praia das Milícias, four kilometres from Ponta Delgada, or Praia do Areal de Santa Bárbara, depending on your level and the tides, you will learn for 2 hours all the technical knowledge necessary to know how to surf: how to enter the water, how to paddle, how to get on the board and keep your balance... Very complete lessons that will allow you to learn how to surf or improve your technique! Sounds good, doesn't it? Surfing with Constantino was one of the top 3 experiences we had the pleasure to experience in our 2 weeks of holidays in the Azores. The boys spread good humor and motivated us throughout the course. It was really a lot of fun, thank you so much!

Our family had a great instructor and the team was great overall. Our grown kids had various surfing skill levels and Constantine was wonderful working with all three of them. Brandon, Emma & Samantha loved every minute of it.

We (4 people age 47,42,16,13) had 2 private surf lessons. We feel so lucky and happy, that we used Watergliders. We had Constantine as our guide. Such a pro guide and very nice personality. We had a great time. We will remember this and recommend to everyone. Thanks 🙏 Family from Denmark

So fun! The two instructors put us through a good warm up on the beach before dividing up the group (total group of 7 including my husband and I) and teaching us the positions and strategies on the board on land. Then we got in the water and the instructors helped us catch waves! They were encouraging and cheered us on even when we were terrible ha. Awesome experience for two people who have only surfed one other time!
