It's volcanic origin means that we find dreamlike cliffs, paradisiacal beaches and beautiful natural parks, some of them with thermal waters such as Terra Nostra Park. The capital of the Azores is São Miguel, an island that receives thousands of tourists every year looking for a change of scenery through its hiking trails or surfing. If there's anything like Hawaii.
It's that the Azores, and São Miguel in particular, is one of the best places in Europe for surfing. If you've never surfed before, now's your chance to learn!

What To Expect
The surf teachers of Azores Watergliders surf club offer you their knowledge in these surf lessons in São Miguel for beginners and intermediate level. Choosing two of the best surfing beaches in São Miguel, Praia das Milícias, four kilometres from Ponta Delgada, or Praia do Areal de Santa Bárbara, depending on your level and the tides, you will learn for 2 hours all the technical knowledge necessary to know how to surf: how to enter the water, how to paddle, how to get on the board and keep your balance... Very complete lessons that will allow you to learn how to surf or improve your technique! Sounds good, doesn't it? 5.00Happened upon the surf shop on our trip to sao miguel last summer. They were so accommodating and rushed us in in time for the next available slot. Kids had a great time, instructor was great! Everyone who worked there was so friendly and so many cute things to buy in the surf shop itself (hydrangea foot and hand balm is amazing). Will def be back again :)

The two instructors put us through a good warm up on the beach before dividing up the group (total group of 7 including my husband and I) and teaching us the positions and strategies on the board on land. Then we got in the water and the instructors helped us catch waves! They were encouraging and cheered us on even when we were terrible ha. Awesome experience for two people who have only surfed one other time!
