Mt. Takao
Meet your guide at Takaosanguchi Station on the Keio Line in the morning. Before going up the mountain, browse through stores at the foot of the mountain where you can buy water as well as snacks to enjoy at the top. After changing your clothes and deciding on which route to take, let’s embark on a wonderful journey! Mt. Takao has been awarded the highest rank of three stars in the Michelin Travel Guide Book, and is a very popular destination for mountain-loving Tokyoites as well as international visitors. Pink cherry blossoms in spring, verdant green in summer, red foliage in fall, and white snow in winter; enjoy the unique color and charm each season has to offer. There are many tourist attractions and stunning photo spots including ancient temples and shrines. As our guide is a seasoned mountain trail runner and has climbed the mountain numerous times, he can pick the best trail according to the season. While you are there, feel free to ask him any questions you may have, whether about the mountains or Japanese culture. You can walk/run up the mountain at a comfortable pace and take a break halfway up the mountain. Once you’ve reached the summit, enjoy some snacks while taking in the breathtaking scenery. On a fine day, you might be able to see Mt. Fuji, and even if it’s cloudy, you’ll be treated to mystical views the fog creates. Mt. Takao is about 600 meters high and it will take approx. 2~3 hours to climb up and down. If you are interested, we can take a leisurely bath at a onsen hot spring close to the station. There’s nothing better than to indulge you body and mind in hot water after a tough workout. Then, you can join your guide for a sumptuous lunch at a Japanese restaurant nearby to top off the experience!

This was a great hike! My tour guide was Yasuko, and she was a really fun lady to talk to! She told me all about the mountain and the shrines and temples located there as well. The hike was not too hard, and most relatively in shape people should be able to do it. After the hike we went to an onsen, and it was a nice relaxing time. The onsen also had lunch available and she helped me order my food. I had a great time hiking, and would love to do it again if I am ever in Japan again!
