My cousin & I rented bikes from the Midleton branch of Cork Bike Hire (Midleton Greenway Bikes & Bites) to cycle the recently-opened Midleton to Youghal Greenway & had a very enjoyable day. The bikes were perfect for our needs & as well as ensuring that each one was set at a comfortable height for us, helpful Finn sent us on our way with well-fitted helmets, gel-padded seat covers, a carrier & bike locks. The ride itself was very enjoyable. Once on the Greenway, it's 23km one way, mostly flat with only slight inclines that were easily managed with only 1 or 2 gear changes to help here & there. With stops for water & to rest or stretch our legs (which were unaccustomed to cycling), the 23km to Youghal took us about 1h 45min against what felt like a fairly strong easterly breeze. The trip back was a little easier & quicker. Wannabe cyclists should note that the bike hire location is on Midleton Main St about 1.3km from the start of the Greenway path behind Midleton train station . As we are not experienced cyclists & there are no cycle lanes along Main St or to the train station, we chose to walk the bikes most of the way, so it took us approx 15 min to get to the Greenway after picking up the bikes. On the Youghal side, we were a little disappointed to come to a somewhat unwelcoming & abrupt "Dismount" sign at a car park with no facilities or helpful signposting. Not seeing any advertising or signposts for places to eat nearby, we ventured into the town centre which added unexpected extra distance & time to our journey, ultimately reducing time we had hoped to spend on the waterfront. On our return, we discovered that there is coffee & food available at Claycastle beach & that there is a barely noticeable & (as far as we could see) unsignposted pathway up to the beach from the Greenway just before its end. Obviously this is not Cork Bike Hire's fault, but it might be helpful advice for them to give to future customers who are not interested in venturing into Youghal town centre.

Hired two electric bikes to do the greenway. Both staff and quality of the bikes were great. Greenway was great and so well maintained.

Renting a bike was a breeze. Staff was very helpful and adjusted the bike to our needs. We hoped there was a bike path off the Main Street but surprisingly, didn’t find biking on the road through the town difficult. Luckily it’s a short distance to the train station, where the Greenway starts. The path and surroundings are well kept and the path offers lovely views of the countryside. There are many seating/resting spots. We only biked from Midleton to Killeagh, which we found to be easy and flat the whole way.
