The journey begins in Mayong—a village where centuries of folklore once whispered tales of sorcerers and shape-shifters. Today, those stories live mainly in memory and in the small but intriguing Mayong Museum, where old manuscripts, ritual objects and recorded myths offer a window into Assam’s cultural imagination. It’s a place where history, anthropology and storytelling blend.
From there the tour steps firmly into the wild. Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary spreads out like a green amphitheatre of tall grasses and marshes, home to one of the densest populations of the Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros on the planet. Decades of conservation work—habitat protection, anti-poaching patrols and scientific monitoring—have turned this pocket-sized sanctuary into a stronghold for the species. A safari here gives you a front-row seat to their world: rhinos grazing in the mist, birds lifting off in spirals, and the quiet hum of an ecosystem doing exactly what evolution designed it to do.

What To Expect
Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary
This sanctuary is home to the world's densest population of one-horned rhinoceroses, offering a contrasting experience of natural beauty alongside Mayong's mysticism. The reserve can be explored over an Elephant safari or a Jeep ride.
Our guide will bring you to Mayong, a village steeped in folklore and legends for centuries. The village's association with black magic is even mentioned in epics like the Mahabharata, where Ghatotkacha is said to have derived his magical powers from Mayon. We will learn about how the villagers have adapted with times to become healers. Mayong today is renowned for its traditional healing practices, which often incorporate elements of black magic and witchcraft. At the miuseum we can see a diverse collection of artifacts, including ancient manuscripts, skulls, relics used in rituals, and tools that were once used for human sacrifices. It also features stone statues, old coins, and jewellery made from bones and shells

5.00The tour was very rewarding as we saw half a dozen Rhinos at Pobitora. They were magnificent in this natural habitat. The topping was a visit to a Village of wizards at Mayong. Altogether a fantastic way to spend a day in Guwahati.

5.00My review is personal for Rashmi as she saved the day :) Unfortunately I was the unlucky one who didn't get to enter the park since it was a rainy day and roads got too muddy to access beautiful Pobitora. Now, back to Rashmi, from the moment we met, her warmth, professionalism, and deep knowledge of Assam’s history, culture, and traditions stood out. She did her best going up and down along the park so at least I could have a glimpse of the majestic rhinos, which we did :) So the day was not lost because of the rain, I actually gained so much more than just visiting the park: knowledge and local feeling :) And I saw a baby rhino!!!

The schedule was perfectly planned—no crowds, just smooth travel all day. What made it truly special was the guide’s warm hospitality. It turned a great tour into a cherished memory. This is a must-visit destination at least once in a lifetime. And for the value you get, it’s absolutely worth booking. この旅は最初から最後まで素晴らしかったです。ガイドは非常に経験豊富で、マヨンの黒魔術の歴史やポビトラ野生生物保護区の素晴らしさについて、興味深い話を聞かせてくれました。スケジュールは完璧に計画されており、混雑もなく、一日中スムーズに移動できました。本当に特別なのは、ガイドの温かいおもてなしでした。おかげで、素晴らしいツアーがかけがえのない思い出になりました。 一生に一度は訪れるべきと思わせる良い旅でした。

4.00Mayong was an absolute surprise. We had a blast in this tour from Guwahati. It was lovely to visit this village lost in time and where witches and wizards used to thrive. We even spoke to a few. It was a memorable day as any tour can be!

5.00It was intrigued when I read about this tour to a Hogwarts school of witchcraft in India . As I was in Guwahati I tried this our of curiosity. Turned to be a fantastic day. We had a lot of fun visiting the village and meeting people whose family used to be interested wizardry in the past. We had a fascinating conversation with them and saw a few spooky sites as well. The second part fot he tour was a magnificent wild life sanctuary. Spotting Rhinos was the highlight of this segment. Very highly recommended for people who want to learn something new from their travel.
