  Our day with Alex was nothing short of spectacular. From the moment he picked us up, his warm smile and genuine enthusiasm set the tone for an unforgettable Albanian experience. He's the kind of person who makes you feel instantly at ease, like you're exploring with an old friend. His hospitality? Top-notch doesn't even begin to cover it. Our initial plan was a simple trip to Sarande and Ksamil. However, Alex, with his keen eye for enriching experiences, suggested a detour to Gjirokaster Castle. This spontaneous addition proved to be a highlight. The imposing castle, steeped in history, offered breathtaking panoramic views of the "Stone City." Alex's storytelling brought the ancient walls to life, painting vivid pictures of past battles and bygone eras. But Alex's generosity extended beyond just showing us the sights. He was determined to immerse us in Albanian culture, starting with a delicious breakfast of warm, flaky Byrek paired with strong, aromatic Albanian coffee. And to truly embrace the local way, he introduced us to Dhalle, a refreshing yogurt drink that perfectly complemented the savoury pastry. It was a delightful introduction to the country's culinary delights. Our journey continued towards the mesmerizing Blue Eye spring. The short hike through the lush, verdant landscape was a pleasant prelude to the main event. The Blue Eye, with its startlingly clear, turquoise water, was a sight to behold. The sheer clarity and the vibrant colour were truly captivating, a testament to nature's artistry. Alex patiently waited while we took photos and absorbed the serene atmosphere, never rushing us. The drive to Sarande was scenic, offering glimpses of the stunning coastline. Upon arrival, we were immediately struck by the beauty of the beaches. The crystal-clear waters and white sand were idyllic. Alex pointed out the best spots for swimming and relaxing, and we could easily imagine the area bustling with life during the summer months. Next, we ventured to Ksamil, a coastal gem renowned for its stunning islands and pristine beaches. The beauty was undeniable; however, the off-season timing meant that many restaurants were closed. This was the only minor drawback of our trip, as we would have loved to experience the vibrant dining scene. However, Alex did his best to make up for it by pointing out the best views and hidden coves, ensuring we still appreciated the beauty of the area. Throughout the entire 12-hour journey, Alex's friendliness and attentiveness shone through. He was always ready with a story, a recommendation, or a helping hand. He effortlessly balanced being informative and engaging, making the long day feel like a fun adventure. His passion for his country was infectious, and he clearly took pride in sharing its beauty and culture with us. In conclusion, our day with Alex was a truly memorable experience.
