- Review from Viator
We had a wonderful tour exploring Nouméa’s flora, fauna, and birdlife at a local zoological park. Our guide, Hervé, was thoughtful, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the natural environment. Right from the start, he made us feel welcome by providing a large bottle of cold water as soon as we got in the car, which was especially appreciated on a hot and humid day. One of the absolute highlights was when Hervé went out of his way to find the feeding schedule for New Caledonia’s national bird, the Kagu. Watching these rare, flightless birds eat, share, and play together was incredible and something we never would have experienced without his local knowledge and extra effort. The tour was relaxed, informative, and genuinely enjoyable from beginning to end. We had a really great time and highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Nouméa. While we truly enjoyed the tour itself, we do want to note that the description on Viator was somewhat misleading. Based on the overview, we were under the impression that we would be visiting a rainforest environment with birds flying freely overhead in their natural habitats. In reality, the tour took place in a zoological park. Although the booking details did list park admission, the main tour overview did not clearly state that the experience would be within a park setting. This didn’t diminish our enjoyment of the tour, but clearer wording would help set accurate expectations for future guests.
