Piazza del Campo
From here we can visit some of Siena’s beautiful public fountains, while I explain the incredible aqueducts that run underneath the city even today. The most important fountain is Fonte Gaia, a monumental fountain located in the Piazza del Campo, which is actually a replica as the original panels are housed in the Santa Maria della Scala museum. The famous Piazza del Campo is a shell shaped square at the heart of Siena with its soaring Torre del Mangia tower and the buildings of the City Hall which also include a museum with an entire room filled with Lorenzetti’s Allegory of Good and Bad Government frescoes. Each year the square is packed with dirt and transformed for the Palio horserace which is run twice a year on July 2nd and August 16th with 10 of the 17 contrada neighborhoods competing.
Torre del Mangia
I will explain about the fascinating Torre del Mangia, but we won't climb up to the very top unless you let me know ahead of time as there are lots of steps!

It was a terrific overview of Siena. Covered the city and loved learning the history. We also did the Cathedral inside and our guide added a lot.

Adele was a great guide. She was a local with a passion for Siena. She was funny and accommodating. We purchased tickets to go into the Duomo and she helped us skip the line and then did an amazing tour inside also. Would recommend!

Gemma is a star. She is a local who brought authenticity and passion to the tour. It’s a perfect orientation to Siena. I recommend you booking this your first full day in town. I truly appreciated her knowledge of the local district customs and the details of the magnificent cathedral and the Saint Catherine church - I would have missed so many critical details without her. Make sure to visit the small library in the cathedral and really take it in.

We really enjoyed this tour. We visited a few days before the Palio and the streets were bustling with excitement. I don’t think we could have appreciated everything we were seeing without a guided tour. Elisabetta was a wonderful guide, incredibly knowledgeable and gave aus a good understanding of the local culture and history at a good pace. I would recommend this tour.

Sophia was a great guide for us. She showed us where to park our car, to avoid getting a fine or towed. She explained the history of Siena, the 17 Conrad’s districts, and the Pallio races. She toured us through the Duomo, and showed us the former hotel for pilgrims. She coordinated with the next tour of Siena (this afternoon), so we will see different places.

Elizabetta was a great local guide. Lots of history and quirky stories to tell. Gave us time to jump into small shops and not rush us. Ended tour near our parked car. Very knowledgeable and pleasant personality.

This was a great start tour. We only had a half day in Siena and saw the highlights. Elisabetta was very knowledgeable and spent a lot of time in the cathedral with us, had a great stop for a delicious treat of almond cookies and showing us the other main areas of town. She also helped us know where to park and how to get in and out of the city.

What a fantastic tour of Siena! Elisabetta was a wonderful tour guide, through the Piazza del Campo where they hold the Palio, Siena Cathedral, and the Basilica di San Domenico. The tour through the neighborhoods was great, too, such as seeing the medieval aqueduct really brought to life the city. What a great way to spend a half-day. I would heartily recommend!
