I would like to caution people before booking to check if the mountain is likely to open for this experience. Our group was lucky for it open the day before, however the mountain had previously been closed for two months. Please also consider the travel time vs the time spent on the mountain, itself. This is an overnight trip which starts at 1pm and you may get to accommodation for about a 2 hour nap. The food offered I think is suitable, but maybe not up to a certain level of people’s expectations. Our group experienced a car accident on the way to the ferry. As a result we were on the side of the road for almost an hour, in a very remote village. In this instance some people couldn’t use the locals bathrooms. We were left with no updates from the driver about the progress of being picked up. They didn’t ask if anyone was injured (luckily no one was). Please consider bringing motion sickness tablets, as our drivers (to and from) were constantly weaving between lanes. There is one stop for snacks and bathroom, as such there is a long span of hours with no breaks. Please bring your passport as you need this to board the ferry and a brief medical examination (no intrusive)- blood pressure etc. One of the people in our group was unwell and used the carts provided, while effective there is an associated cost (so please take this into consideration when making a booking.) At the time of our experience 120k for up and 60k for down($200 AUD). Overall, the experience is well managed and the host family for the food was attentive. If you are selecting your pick up point, Ubud is closer to the mountain and would reduce your travel time by about an hour and a half. If you are looking for a challenging hike, this mountain is not suitable. A lot of photo opportunities with a great view, yes but not a rough trek. About 2/3 of the way up the mountain there is a noticeable decrease in temperature, so pack a breathable jumper or jacket. While a light is provided, it is hand held, so if you need a walking/ support stick this can be difficult to manage.

Ijen is one of only 2 places in the world (the other being ethiopia) where you can see blue magma. It is one of the most beautiful things i have ever seen. The travel is long but completely worth it. The driver, and guides were extremely nice. The Java breakfast was so good! And of course the scenery is astonishing, from the road to the ferry, the ferry itself allows you to see Ijen and other volcanoes. And then the magma, the acid lake, and crater 10/10

It was an amazing adventure to see such an unreal place live and not just pictures. The climb was quite hard for me but I'm very unfit so anyone with some basic stamina should be able to it as well. If not you can get someone to push you up there in their 'Ferrari' ;) The people where really friendly and accommodating and I enjoyed both classic Indonesien meals that were provided. Our driver was very good he was fast and in the same moment very smooth. I had very interesting conversations with him and learned lots about the Indonesien culture. Which I personally really enjoyed. Our tour guides where very friendly and knowledgeable as well. We had a great time and really suggest that this is a must when in Indonesia. Merci Beaucoup to the Boss finding so good staff.

All in all, amazing!😄 Please note it is a long traveling trip, I was picked up from ubud and was gone from 2pm-630pm the next day. I will say it was completely worth it. Water, dinner, and breakfast is provided by a local spot and is ready by the time you arrive which I found a really nice touch. We had a place to sleep provided for a few hours before we went to the hike spot just take some soap with you because none is provided (not a big deal). Every single driver/ staff member was super friendly. Our guide was knowledgeable and made sure we were safe the entire time AND even captured an amazing video of the blue fire for me. Very thankful for this team.
