Panstwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau
The concentration camp in Auschwitz was established by German Nazis on the outskirts of the town Oswiecim in 1940. After the war, the camp was turned into museum displaying evidence of the genocide. Block no. 11, known as the Death Block, was where people were murdered also at the “Wall of Death”. Outside the camp, there is a gas chamber, where 70,000 people were killed in 1940-1943. In 1941, 3 kilometres from Oswiecim, in the former village of Brzezinka, the German Nazis established a new camp called Auschwitz II Birkenau. In 1942-1945, approx. 1.5 million people lived and died here. Most of them (90%) were Jews, others were Poles, Gypsies, Russians and prisoners from 28 countries of Europe, people of all nationalities and political and religious persuasions. Since 1944, transports of prisoners from all over the continent entered directly through the “Gate of Death”. In 1979, Auschwitz – Birkenau Concentration Camp was listed a UNESCO World Culture and National Heritage Site.

This Auschwitz tour works like a clockwork, everything was on time and managed in punctual manner. No time is wasted waiting. Initially we were confused because the communication on the bus from Krakow to Auschwitz was done in Italian while we booked the tour in English. We quickly found out from other passengers that apparently the English-speaking tour was put on the same bus as Italian-speaking tour. Later, at Auschwitz, our English-speaking guide - sorry, forgot his name - came on board and started to address us. The tour consisted of almost 4 hours of standing and walking to visit various buildings where atrocities were committed in both Auschwitz and Birkenau. Our guide was a passionate gentleman with amazing storytelling talent. It was a poignant tour that is both educational and enlightening. I've seen another concentration camp in Mauthausen, Austria, yet Aushwitz-Birkenau are on a different scale altogether due to its sheer size and evil.

Agnieszka Boczkiewicz was excellent. She picked us up & arranged for our tickets & kept us updated on changes to the return trip. The gentleman who picked us up at the end was great. The English speaking guide was great. The only downside was listening to 1 hour of Italian on the way to the tour.

Communication with Agnieszka before the trip was fantastic, she responded quickly to every question and made sure we had all the information we needed in advance. Our first driver picked us up right on time at 4:00 AM from our hotel with a name card, so there was no confusion. He was friendly and made the early start a little easier! We then met the rest of the group at a central location and joined a mini bus of 7 people in total with our main driver, Maciej. The minivan was clean and comfortable, and Maciej was a fantastic driver, friendly, professional, and very accommodating. He reassured us that we could stop whenever needed, though we made one planned stop about halfway through. The total journey to Auschwitz took about 3 hours, plus a 30-minute break. The tour of Auschwitz and Birkenau was powerful and very informative. It was busy, but understandably so, it’s a significant historical site and that’s part of the experience. The company organised everything well and kept us on schedule. After the tour, Maciej was waiting for us with complimentary water, which was a thoughtful touch. He then drove us to Krakow Old Town (about 1 hour 20 minutes), during which he answered questions and provided useful information. We had 3 hours of free time there, plenty of time to eat, walk around, and explore the beautiful city center. The return journey was smooth, with another halfway break. Maciej dropped each of us off at our individual hotels in Warsaw. We also had his phone number the entire time, which made us feel safe and supported. This trip was incredibly well-organised, with excellent communication, a caring and professional driver, and thoughtful touches that made a long day much more enjoyable. I would absolutely book this tour again and recommend it to anyone considering a visit to Auschwitz from Warsaw.

The tour of Auschwitz itself was wonderful. The English speaking guide was easy to understand and it was very organized. We could have benefited from more time at each exhibit to take in the experience. Our drivers to and from the train station were punctual and friendly. Everything was very organized…ie. train tickets, directions etc. Our only complaint was our driver to and from Krakow to the museum. Although he was friendly and comical, he had the radio so loud throughout the 1.5 hour ride it was very over stimulating. The driver also did not keep the van at a comfortable temperature.
