Skagway Alaska Downtown
Downtown Skagway is a US National Park with dozens of Klondike Gold Rush-era historic buildings and exhibits. from there, we proceed up over the White Pass on the spectacular South Klondike Highway. En route to Emerald Lake, we make many stops for photos, search for wildlife, spot Mountain Goats, waterfalls, enormous lakes like Tutshi, Tagish and Bennett. Guide know the road very well, he's been doing tours here since 1992, longer than anyone else. The tour is totally customizable and flexible. Weather permitting, I have a couple of short hikes and secret spots where no one else goes. This tour can also stop at a Husky Camp where you will meet veterans of the famous 1000-mile Iditarod sled dog race. Another optional stop is at the Yukon Suspension Bridge, which spans the Class 5 Tutshi River. We will visit the Native Village of Carcross Yukon for lunch and you'll have time for shopping, beach walking and more.
Yukon Suspension Bridge
The Yukon Suspension bridge is located 25 miles north of Skagway. It's a spectacular location, and a well-managed facility with a cafeteria, gift shops, and the only running water restrooms on the highway. (there are also outhouses along the way if you choose not to visit the bridge) Admission if you're with me is half price, just $11 CAD This stop is optional, and we usually visit the bridge on the way back to Skagway.

Spent an enjoyable day with Thomas getting the backstage tour of the beautiful scenery around and outside of Skagway. We all learned a lot and shared a lot of laughs. Great photos too! Thanks Tom for a memorable excursion! Tori and gang!

Tom is a true character who loves and shares his 30 year adopted home of Skagway Alaska and its environs. You will learn and laugh for hours. If you enjoy true, unfiltered stories of current and past events in Alaska and the Yukon, you’ll love his tour! We also spotted a bear, mountain goats and an eagle family nesting. This is a full experience!

We are just back from an Alaska cruise and had to review the wonderful excursion we had with Thomas. We had planned on travelling on the White Pass train, but decided that we would see more of Skagway and the surrounding areas on a personalised tour. It was really easy to make the booking with Thomas, he got back to us extremely quickly to confirm everything. He was completely flexible with what we wanted to do, he was happy to do the amount of hours that we chose and go wherever we wanted, also making great suggestions. We were having such a lovely time we decided to extend the tour whilst we were on it! Thomas was waiting by the boat as we arrived and ensured that we were well on our way to the Emerald Lake before all the tour buses and other tourists. He was helpful and informative, giving lots of history and tips about where to go. He helped to spot wildlife (even a bear!) all with a great sense of humour. If you are in Skagway, do not hesitate to book a tour with Thomas, you won’t regret it.

I wish I could give Thomas 10 stars! We are a group of 4, and were all planning to ride the White Pass Railway, until about 2 days before we flew to Seattle to start our cruise. Having read around, we decided that a more personalised tour would suit us better, and cancelled the train and booked with Thomas! What a great choice! Thomas was waiting by the ship when we arrived at 7:30, greeting us like old friends. His van is large, comfortable and very well maintained. He wanted to get to know us, and to find out what we wanted from our tour, so he was able to tailor the day to us specifically. Thomas is knowledgeable, witty, respectful and happy to regale all of us with stories of life in Alaska. We spent over 7 hours with Thomas, driving to the Emerald Lake via Carcross (amazing maple shop!!) and then back to Skagway, stopping off at the Yukon Suspension Bridge. Along the way, he took us to a number of off-the-beaten-path places, that we all loved. I cannot recommend this tour highly enough.

My wife and I had a private full day tour with Tom Pickerel during the first week of June 2025. Tom was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to which made the tour very enjoyable. We saw a lot of scenic sites in the Yukon including Emerald Lake at a relaxing pace. What was really nice is that Tom was local and seemed to know everyone which made my wife and I feel feel welcome. We would highly recommend to anyone going to see the Yukon and Emerald Lake do with Tom you will get I personalized first class tour!!!
