The Korouoma Canyon is a unique nature area in the Finnish Lapland, that offers beautiful arctic landscapes to explore. In winter, the canyon presents some of the most impressive frozen formations in Europe and a famous playground for ice-climbers. The nature reserve of Korouoma is just 1h30 away from Rovaniemi, which makes it one of the best places to hike from the capital of Lapland.

With your expert outdoor guide, you will hike down into the canyon to the best viewpoints. Your guide will teach you more about nature, some survival tips and share with you their passion for Lapland. After the hike, a barbecue lunch will be served around an open fire.

What To Expect

Enjoy an all-day guided trip to the majestic frozen waterfalls of the Korouoma Canyon. This is one of the best nature places to explore from Rovaniemi! The trip departs from Rovaniemi where your outdoor guide will pick you up. They will then drive you in the direction of the canyon and the nature reserve of Korouoma (one-way journey takes around 1h30). Once arrived, you will start hiking down into the canyon and get to the best spots to admire the frozen waterfalls. The protected reserve also offers beautiful nature and picturesque snowy landscapes. Some of the most impressive waterfalls are famous for ice-climbing, and you may spot some brave adventurers climbing the ice walls as you hiked along the canyon. In total, the hike is around 5 km. Along the way, your expert outdoor guide will share with you their knowledge about the arctic nature, teach you some survival tips and offer you all their passion for Lapland. At some point, you will enjoy a delicious Finnish barbecue lunch around the open fire to warm up and fill your stomach. You will finally drive back to Rovaniemi, for a memorable day trip into pure Lapland nature.

Service, team, excursions, availability, advice, reception, communication.... Everything was on top! We were looking for a family atmosphere away from the big agencies putting profit first , and well with Nordic we found our happiness. If we have to return to a Nordic country, we will take Nordic back with our eyes closed!

We had Leo as our guide for two tours: the Korouoma Canyon hike yesterday and the husky adventure today. He was amazing both times. Leo is super attentive, helpful, and knows what he’s doing. He made sure everything went smoothly and that we all had a great time. As someone who works in tourism, it’s great to see young guides like Leo showing how capable and professional they can be. Not only him, but the whole team that assisted us through the whole process. It’s awesome to see the industry giving opportunities to young people and proving that they can deliver excellent experiences as well. I really connected with that since I’m also young and working in tourism. Thanks also to Emilie that was with us on the tour and took amazing professional pictures since we didn’t have our camera working that day - it was really appreciated. We highly recommend Leo as a guide and are so so glad we got lucky to do these tours with him. Thanks Leo, and please come to Brasil!!! 😜

Great day out. Beautiful place. Our group was 7 people (8 was maximum) & we were given both clamp on spikes & a slider (kids sled) to play on if we wanted! Our guide was lovely & although there was lots of people there, we hardly saw anyone & had lots of time. We even requested a vege snack which was great. A must do.

We spent a superb day in Karouoma thanks to our guide Sophie as much for her welcome, her kindness, her knowledge as for her professionalism. A nice little extra: the loan of crampons, very practical in this canyon! The site is super beautiful, you can appreciate nature, the calm, the waterfalls. The Nordic Odyssée team is very responsive, serious and efficient, I really recommend it.

We trusted the Nordic Odissey team for our excursions for a family of 11 people and they are a top team! Very attentive to ensuring that everything goes well, they also know how to share their love of Finland with young and old. Thanks to Aurore, Hervé and Jérémy as well as those who stayed at the office and who helped us with the reservation problem at the Artic Snow Hotel.

Superb day accompanied by Justine to see the frozen waterfalls. Justine pleasantly guided us, gave us lots of information about the forest and the walk we were doing and allowed us to laugh a lot to sledge! I highly recommend this experience in nature!

A top team! Francophone guides and activities in small groups very appreciable. Many thanks to our guides: Leo (reindeer farm visit), Timo (10 km trekking with sled dogs), Justine (successful hunt for the Northern Lights and superb photos) and Jeremy (ice fishing and frozen waterfalls of Korouoma) for their kindness, benevolence at all times and having at heart to make us live fully all his beautiful adventures and pass on their knowledge. Even the teenagers would have loved to pursue other activities with the team!
