Our guide Su was amazing — super professional and an excellent driver. His knowledge and determination to spot the animals made the exprience unforgettable. We were lucky enough to see two of the big three and the meals included were great home-cooked meals. Highly recommend.

We had a great time with Janaka Safaris and our guide Amila! We saw a lot of animals there, and around half past 4 also saw the leopard. Because of Amilas experience, it seemed like he could predict where the leopard would appear next once we spotted it, so we stayed one step ahead of the other jeeps. We hade one person in our car who studied animals, and Amila could answer all his questions about which exact type of rabbit/deer/snake/elefant/buffalo etc. this and that animal is. I would also recommend the full day tour, since it rained a bit before noon, and in the afternoon we saw a whole different, beautifully sunny side of Yala. Highly recommend doing this tour with Janaka Safari, we had an amazing experience!

The experience was one of the best days of my life, although it was a long one! We started around 4:30am from our hotel, which was about an hour to the gate of Yala National Park. Our guide explained some ethical considerations for our safari, which I appreciated, and then we started at 6. Within the first hour, we saw a Tusker elephant! Our guide was constantly ethically approaching the animals and was very calm and quiet in their presence, so as not to scare them. The roads were bad in Yala, but the driver was going very slow to make it as comfortable as possible. I don’t recommend this activity for anyone with back troubles. We saw 100s of animals throughout our 12 hours in the park. The guide went above and beyond to find a leopard, as 3 people in our jeep flew to Sri Lanka just to see a leopard. Our final sighting was a leopard. It was quite a site! But they are very difficult to find so no one should go into this activity expecting to see them. They are only active in the early morning and evening. In the daytime we saw many birds, elephants, monkeys, buffalo and deer. The landscape in the park is also beautiful. I was blown away. But after the morning in the jeep I got carsick and got a headache and backache. It is a very long day and in the later hours I could not enjoy it as much. I recommend bringing some painkillers and motion sickness medication. Our driver was very experienced and this was the most ethical and respectful safari guide I have encountered. I appreciate how much he cares for the wellbeing of the animals. Other guides we saw were much more careless. He was educating them if he saw bad behaviors.

The full day was absolutely worth it. Ask for Su! He is the best guide and will make the day very enjoyable with all of his knowledge and experience. Even though it rained, he helped us make the most of our day.

Fantastic experience! Went for the full day safari and spotted three leopards, sloth bear, elephants, cobra, etc etc. A large part of the reason we saw all these animals was our driver Sajees experience and knowledge. He was also very friendly and guided us safe through the day

We spent from 6am until about 4:30 pm in the park. With a 4:30 am collection from our hotel. In that time we were lucky enough to see 3 different Leopards, a Sloth Bear and quite a few elephants along with lots of other animals. There is a mandatory “lunch” between 12:00 and 14:00 where you have two hours at a fairly basic rest stop by the beach - this is the same for all Yala tours - the provided lunch was good. Our guide Sajee had a good network of drivers to let him know where the animals were and knew plenty of good locations which helped to see so many large animals. He was also extremely friendly and enthusiastic and helped make it a memorable trip. The nature of Yala National Park is that there are a lot of tours racing around trying to see the larger animals - which is fine and I’d still recommend it as a great experience - but have also enjoyed more leisurely tours that explained different plants, environments and smaller animals. The advert says Card Payment accepted but we were instructed to bring cash two days beforehand, so keep that in mind.

We had an amazing time with Janaka Safari. Our driver, Saje, was incredible and so knowledgable about the area. As soon as he heard of a leopard spotting he got us there as fast as possible before all of the other jeeps. We also saw elephants, deer, monkeys, loads of birds, mongoose and crocodiles.

We had an amazing experience thanks to our guide Su! He was really keen to ensure we had an enjoyable time exploring the park and seeing all the animals, rather than just waiting in queues trying to catch a leopard. I really appreciated this as with the number of jeeps in the park all looking for the same animals it can easily feel more like a theme park than a safari - however with Su we were often driving with no other jeeps in sight and seeing lots of beautiful sights and animals. He was also very happy to take our lead, and in the cases where we did want to stay in a queue to see an animal he was very happy to try and get us the best spot. The food for breakfast and lunch was also absolutely delicious! In the end we saw lots of elephants (many when it was just us with no other jeeps around), a leopard, two sloth bears, and lots of other amazing birds, lizards, and mongoose. Would definitely recommend them if you’re planning a trip to Yala
