5.00With just a single day in Takayama, I found this walking tour and it ended up being a highlight. I happened to be the only guest on the day, which made the experience feel refreshingly tailored guided by Hemi. Hemi was all things you'd like in an expert guide: warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in sharing the city. What stood out beyond the sights was the conversations that flowed across the day: from Hemi's fantastic knowledge of Takayama’s history and festival floats to his own journey living in Japan—which added a personal dimension you don’t always get on organised tours. The itinerary was thoughtfully curated to provide insight into local festival traditions, along with mini tasting stops (hida beef stand, miso brewery, sake dispensers!), and the hands-on crafting made great souvenirs. Hemi and this tour's itinerary adapted super well to the # of people and pace, as a solo guest we moved fairly quickly, which suited me perfectly and Hemi was attentive to what I was interested in along the way. I’d highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants a deeper, more grounded sense of Takayama across a full day. Many thanks to Hemi for a memorable experience.

5.00In researching Takayama before my travels to Japan, I came across “Snow Monkey Resorts” website and was impressed by the site descriptions, photos, and the intention of each tour; and was convinced this was the tour I wanted to go on. I must say, our tour guided by Hemi Witehira, did not disappoint! Hemi was excellent! He had a good historical knowledge of the temples and festival floats and its traditions, gave a great overview of the city and its special crafts, shared his area background, encouraged us to try the Hida beef and grilled Gohei-mochi…so delicious, understood the importance of experiential travel and arranged with local artisans for us to try out sake tasting, wood carving, bamboo lamp making, and crafting a Sarubobo doll, he was very fun and personable and gave nice recommendations on where to eat. We came away from the tour with a deeper understanding of Takayama’s rich tradition
