Communication between Mike and Kwame was top tier. Everything was explained, we had a great time on our tour. Private clean SUV awaited us with working AC. We laughed, talked, ate and listened to a great Afro beats playlist on the journey. Thank you Mike, you were awesome!! Hope to see you again soon 🙌🏾

  • Itinerary Changes and Car Trouble Impacted an Otherwise Promising Trip

Road trips aren’t new to my family—we’ve done them in foreign countries on five continents, and this was our fifth in Africa. We provided the tour operator with a customed itinerary of sites and activities we wanted to visit on the route to Kumasi. To fully enjoy each stop, we divided the trip into two days with an overnight stay in Kumasi before returning to Accra. The operator confirmed they could accommodate our plan but made some adjustments based on their local knowledge, which we agreed to. We met our guide, Daniel, early in the morning and set off. I fell asleep during the drive, only to wake and discover our first stop was actually third on our agreed itinerary. I wasn’t sure why the order changed, and unfortunately I never got clarity, as we soon suffered a tire blowout that left us stranded for hours while repairs were made. As a result, Day 1 was reduced to just two of the four planned stops, and the latter of which felt rushed. We arrived at the hotel late and, after a long day, chose to sleep in and skip the first planned stop of Day 2 to focus on the top attraction for my kids—the zip line. Sadly, we didn’t arrive before it closed. While I understand car trouble can happen, I was disappointed that we didn’t follow the agreed itinerary for Day 1 and that communication could have been proactive and collaborative. The sites we did manage to visit were great, but the experience was overshadowed by long stretches on the road—and one long stretch on the roadside. Nevertheless, thankful for the care Daniel and our driver provided.

Great tour and guide. Enjoyed the hands-on experience of the making of the kente cloth, the learning of adinkra symbols, and getting to create my own, and finally, the history of Asante sword.

The BEST was Daniel, our extremely knowledgable tour guide! He was very alert to our needs, constantly checking to make sure we understood how the past had affected and molded Ghanaian and Kumasi culture. He was also an excellent barterer and negotiator to ensure we got the greatest bargains when we were shopping for souvenirs. There is no reason to miss this tour.

  • An incredible day trip

Kumasi is a 6 hour drive from Accra. Our driver, James, checked in with us the day before to confirm the pick up location. We had selected the 5.30am start time. He was at our building from 5am allowing us to get on the road early. His colleague, Joseph also accompanied us to act as guide. Some parts of the journey required using roads that were riddled with pot-holes but James drove us deftly and confidently. We stopped at a rest stop for a toilet break and snack. There are not many stopping options along the way but when we needed another toilet break, James managed to negotiate the use of a bank rest room. We reached Kumasi after 10am and did a series of workshops around the indigenous crafts. I was pleased to try out a kente loom, learn about how cocoa plants are grown in the midst of a real farm, and try out adinkra printing. We visited the Ashanti palace and then the sword museum. Wary of the drive home we picked up lunch to go from a lovely local restaurant set around a lake. With traffic it was a 7 hour drive back but our two guides kept the banter going and helped the time pass. James did most of that drive in the dark, through rainfall at times and across the same pot-holed roads. He had the toughest task that day and was amazing. We reached our accommodation around 11pm. My mother and I have raved endlessly about how much we enjoyed the day trip. The bad roads make the day more difficult than it needs to be. I would suggest you do it as an overnight trip. But I would highly recommend the Kumasi trip with Kwame Tours.

WOW!!! What an amazing day tour. We accomplished so much in a day, but yet never felt rushed or that we had missed out on anything. Kwame was extremely professional in handling all the arrangements and assuring us that we were going to have a great time - and he didn’t disappoint 👍🏽 Our very knowledgeable tour guide Daniel was the BEST! He was very attentiive to our needs, always checking and making sure we had a clear understanding of how the past had impacted and influenced the Kumasi and Ghanian culture, and was a great negotiator bartering to make sure we got the best deals when shopping for souvenirs. This is a tour not to be missed.
