In only a few hours this tour takes you from Bucharest to the foothills of the Balkan Mountains where the impressive medieval settlement of Veliko Tarnovo is located. The tour will start with a visit to the remarkable medieval capital of Veliko Tarnovo, built high on the surrounding hilltops, full of medieval charm.
Once you have explored Veliko Tarnovo and enjoyed lunch, the tour will continue to the city of Ruse, one of Bulgaria's most elegant cities, boasts a touch of Central European grandeur rarely found elsewhere in the country. Bulgaria is a nice place to visit. The cities and village that we visited were awesome. The fort was interesting and our guide gave us just enough info. The day was long but very well planned. Ruse is a beautiful city and deserves to be seen. Overall, great day and good Bulgarian food.

Really enjoyed this tour. Learned lots about Bulgaria & the differences between it & Romania. Brilliant guide Rodica and really enjoyed the lunch spot recommended. The church & fortress were very impressive. Well worth the day trip.

Good experience, the guide, Elena, was excellent, but the visit to the village, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in the way it was, was dispensable.

The tour guide was wonderful. She spoke very good English, was very knowledgeable, and always asked if people needed bathroom breaks. The challenge for the tour came down to two things. The back two rows vents were not open for air conditioning. We’ve been on plenty of tour buses but 6 people in the back could not figure out how to open and close the vents. I was finally able to twist the trim ring (they were stuck) about one hour before the tour was over, to which we then enjoyed the AC. Seven hours in a van sweating in the back didn’t make it enjoyable. The guide needs to explain how to open and close the vents at the beginning of the tour over the microphone, as there are no symbols on the vents and it is not self explanatory. I honestly thought I was breaking it when I finally got it to twist (maybe they aren’t used much in the back). Second, the tour is great if you are just “checking off” a visit to another country, but you might feel like you are left with an empty feeling. The total time of “touring with a guide” is about two hours total. Then you have two hours in a run-down town, eating without AC in the heat, and there are only touristy souvenirs shops. Then the rest are trying to find clean bathrooms for people to use. You end up riding a bus for about 6 + hours looking at farm land and abandoned villages (houses left empty, run-down). We wanted to say we checked the block for another country but paid a heavy price to do that. All in all, it worked but we’d never do it again. Other piece is, you are hitting their touristy areas so things aren’t actually cheap. I’d rather stay another day in Bucharest to do most exploring there.

Visit to Bulgaria It felt like walking back in time. People are friendly. Local food was also good. Bit expensive compared to Bucharest. Some roads are scenic. The tour guide, Robert, was very good, almost like a standup show all the time. And at the same time he was knowledgeable. The church is very old but not worth of admission fee. I felt it’s more beautiful from outside than inside. If you skip it I don’t think you will miss a lot.
