I recently completed six dives over two days with Scotty’s Action Network, the dive shop at Shangri-La Mactan Resort in Cebu, and also earned my Nitrox (EANx) certification. My instructors, Freddy and Taba, along with Jonathan supporting on the boat, were simply outstanding. Their professionalism, deep knowledge of the region, commitment to safety, and genuine passion for marine conservation made every dive both safe and unforgettable. They were friendly, attentive, and made me feel completely at ease from start to finish. Whether you are new to diving or an experienced diver, I highly recommend reaching out to Freddy, Taba, and Jonathan if you’re diving in this region. They’ll make your experience truly exceptional.

We are staying at Shangri-La from 2025.5.2 to 2025.6, so we asked for a dive here, where there is a shop in the hotel. Nalusuan Island and Hilutungan Island on 3rd and diving around the hotel on 5th. It seems that Japanese instruments sometimes dive, but in my case both guides were English-only. As a resort diver, I am nervous at first every time, even if it is not in English, but I forgot when I saw a lot of fish. I was very satisfied that the couple and I were able to dive leisurely because it was a small group. On the 5th, we went to the point of one-on-one, friendly Zigmund and Kontiki with no other guests at the desired time. Whatever you asked me what I wanted to see, this or that request. As soon as the point came in, the Sardine Tornado! When you found me a frogfish, we both high-fived underwater! I was mesmerized again by the sardines, including the scorpionfish, rusty moray eels, warthogs and sea slugs. It seems that there are many points around the hotel, so I want to visit others. As you get older, it's hard to get on the ladder with all the equipment on your back, but it's very nice to be able to take everything off and give it to the captain before you get on the ship. (Of course, I think they'll do it in Japan if you ask, but I've never seen one.) Also, the shop is clean and easy to use with toilets and hot water showers, but Shangri-La guests can take a relaxing shower in their hotel room after finishing. You can go to the pool on the way or have a beer on the beach. We enjoyed diving at the resort. There are a number of Japanese staff, all of whom are friendly but not too polite. I would definitely recommend it. (I have a longer version on google by word of mouth.)

Good rental gear, excellent DMs and Instructors. Sensible, flexible and safe. Big thank you to Bernie my sons Advanced OW instructor and Floy, my youngest sons Junior OW instructor as well as Tere who has been dive master on our fun dives. The house reef is not in great condition but the wall and cave just offshore provided fantastic experiences for my boys who have loved their introduction to Philippines diving. We have more boat dives lined up so really looking forward to the rest of the week, loving the flexibility and allowance to dive how and where we prefer to.

I had 3 boat dive with Scotty's Action Sports Network lead by Bernie and Miki. I would strongly recommend to have the leisure dive with Scotty's. Reasons: 1. Bernie is a very very experienced Dive guide and Dive master. He is very patient and thoughtful.

Everything was so fun! I dived twice with my guide Sara. She is so kind and cute! Because it was my first dive in abroad, moreover I don’t speak English in fluent, so I was little bit nervous at first. She made me relax. She helped and told me not only about diving but also many kinds of things such as transportation and food. She took me to the “museum” in the sea. I especially love TALIMA MARINE SANCTUARY.

I booked from Beltra to participate. The receptionist is more accommodating than the Japanese, so even if you are not good at English, you can participate to some extent. However, it was a pity that there was no detailed explanation of how to find the day after reception and when to dive and rest. The dive is basically followed by an English instructor. Cebu was able to see so many species of fish while the ocean was so beautiful and diving for so long, and he was satisfied with 3 dives. If you are in Mactan Island, it is very easy because you can apply in advance and they will pick you up at the hotel for free.

We booked through TripAdvisor and when we arrived, our guy came to us with the bill and said that was the price for the day, but we had already fully paid through TripAdvisor previously. I could imagine some of you may accidentally and easily pay twice!! All in all, the day was fun but the price of the tour also doesn’t include full gear rental!

Would recommend that you call the shop the day before (or visit if you’re already nearby) to confirm everything. It took us close to an hour on the morning of our dive, after speaking with 5 members of staff, to sort everything out. We had booked well in advance for a 3-dive private day safari at a pre-arranged discount, but there was much confusion about what we had booked and for what price on the day. After everything was finally sorted out (although not for quite the same price...) we were ready to go and had a fantastic day of diving! Our dive guide Alvin and trainee dive guide Kenzuki-san were brilliant. Alvin was very professional and took great care to ensure that we enjoyed each dive, pointing out interesting wildlife that he saw. On our second dive, the o-ring of my rented BCD blew out and Alvin was able to handle this stressful situation very well, making sure that I was safe and had adequate air. There were spares of all the equipment on board so I had a back-up BCD for our third dive. The day safari allows you to access dive sites that are further away from the resort strip and the conditions and visibility were great. The restaurant on stilts that we stopped at for lunch was distinctly average - I’d recommend taking your own packed lunch instead and avoiding the greasy korean buffet that this place offered. The location of Scotty’s could not be more convenient for a dive trip - it’s only 15mins from the airport so you can start diving almost as soon as you land!
