Juma Mosque
Shamakhi’s greatest landmark is Juma Mosque, one of Azerbaijan’s largest and most lavish places of worship. While the current structure was reconstructed in 2013, the earliest version was built way back in 743AD, making this the second oldest mosque in the Caucasus and the oldest in Azerbaijan. Since then it has been destroyed and rebuilt several times, most notably during the devastating earthquake that reduced Shamakhi to rubble in 1859 and later by inter-ethnic clashes in 1918. Besides discovering its historical and religious significance, you can enjoy simply basking in the site’s elegance and tranquility.
Nohur Lake
Nohur Lake is a beautiful natural lake located in the northern part of Azerbaijan, surrounded by a dense forest. It is a popular tourist destination due to its picturesque landscape, which includes crystal-clear waters, verdant forests, and rugged mountains in the distance. The lake is a great place for outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, and camping, and visitors can also enjoy a scenic boat ride or picnic by the water's edge. The area around Nohur Lake is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including rare bird species and endemic plant life, making it a popular destination for nature enthusiasts.

We had a wonderful day on the Gabala–Shamakhi tour, made truly memorable by our guide Elshad. He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and patient, explaining the history, culture, and local stories in a very engaging way. The itinerary was well planned, with beautiful stops and enough time to enjoy each place without feeling rushed. Elshad also went out of his way to ensure everyone was comfortable throughout the journey. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Azerbaijan! #HeritageTours

They offered a free of charge taxi to pick us up from our hotel to the meeting point although it was far! The stop at Jummah mosque was brief and informative, just enough to get an explanation of the place, take pictures, and even pray if needed. Next we visited the waterfall, the temperature was a bit chilly, and there was a walk up some stairs for about 10 mins to reach the top of the waterfall, it might be a bit difficult for some however the view is nice at the top, as well from the bottom if you don’t feel like walking all the way up! There were a few shops/stalls fo snacks & souvenirs too, and one restaurant. Afterwards we went to Nohur lake, the weather was warmer and we rode a boat for about 10 mins around the lake, and then we took a few pictures at the lake and went to have lunch at a restaurant called “Asgard”. They had really good food, however now I wish that we had lunch at the lake, although it would’ve been more expensive, the restaurant looked nice there. Lastly we reached tufandag where we had 2 hours to use the cable car/activities. We ended up just enjoying the view from the peak and taking pictures, by the time we went down we had some tea and churros which were good, and then we left, however, there are activities to do if you would like to! On the way back we stopped again at shamakhi for snacks/toilet. Overall it was an amazing trip and our tour guide Elshad was very friendly and helpful throughout the trip!

We went to gabala tour and the entire experience was very good and well organised. Enough time was given to every spot, however more time at cable car would have been better. I would recommend this tour to everyone.

Our guide, Mr. Elshad, was exceptionally good, providing clear instructions and insightful guidance throughout the entire tour. The driver maintained a very safe speed, and both the driver and Mr. Elshad prioritized everyone's comfort, making the journey smooth and relaxing. This is a wonderful, family-friendly experience where you have the opportunity to meet people and families from various other countries. The company is incredibly organized in their communication and perfectly punctual with all their scheduled stops. The tour was highly informative and truly relaxing. With this company and Mr. Elshad, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. I 100% recommend them for anyone planning tours in Azerbaijan!

The tour was really good. We got to cover all the options in time mentioned. Our guide and vehicle was on time and very helpful with everything. Their knowledge about the places, behaviour, and the way they treated everyone - waited if someone got late or wanted to explore more. It was a near perfect tour. Special thanks to our guides - Arzu and Ulkar for one of the best experience.

With my good experience with Heritage Tours, I booked this tour with them directly. The team on WhatsApp (+994 77 568 1167) is very active & supportive. They arranged to pick me up from my hotel in Old town and we started the tour towards the beautiful town of Shamakhi. We had the first stop at the Jummah Mosque for its great architectural appearance. However, if you have visited other Arab countries this mosque may not impress you much. After a science drive we arrived at Nohur Lake for a lunch at leisure by the lake. Lunch was delicious with vegetarian options and tea. Atmosphere was serene. After lunch was fun time at the Tufandag Mountain Resort. Beautiful Cable Car rides and amazing views from top and enjoy a stroll in the forest. We didn’t go to Seven Beauties Waterfall as the guide said its closed (however we heard other tours were going there). I don’t regret it as it was compensated by a visit to Lavendar Farm near Gabala. It was the start of the spring, so the farm was open was visit, where we saw, flowers were starting to bloom, a sight to amaze! Our guide, Russel, was quite tired as we had almost 3 hours' drive back to Baku town!!
