We traveled about an hour to Bertha’s Beach in a 16 passenger van. The driver of our “Guided tour” did not offer any commentary at all. The van broke down and to their credit they sent a replacement as quickly as possible. We stopped at one location and saw some penguins fairly motionless. We then drove a short way to the shore and walked to the water where we saw a larger group of penguins entertainingly flapping their wings. Again no commentary from our “guide”. We had enough time and did not feel rushed. Back in Stanley he drove us around the tiny town to see the governor’s house and stopped at a museum which we visited before walking back to the port on our own (our choice). In all, much better penguin sighting in Falkland Islands. An underwhelming penguin visit for the hefty price of $632 for two of us.

Our private tour with guide Bua who is very informative, friendly and a fantastic driver. After seeing Gentoo and King penguin also took us around the city. We would definitely look her up if we ever return again.

The drive time to get to the beach where the penguins were was fairly long and the views of the town were very minimal and our guide though friendly did not freely offer much information but was happy to answer questions if asked. The lunch provided was pretty basic but tasty. It was great to see the penguins up close. But the Subaru was cramped for the 4 guests and the driver with 3 crammed into the back seat. For over $1200 for the 4 people for 3 hours seemed excessive, but when you come that far you want to see what you came to see.

3 of us were guided by a lady who came from Thailand 19 years ago. She took us to a public beach (she referred to it ) to see the penguin, there are baby penguins standing over together. No king penguins, she finally find one with gray feet as a king penguin. I asked if we were going to see some other place, she said that we will only see one place. The other team who pay around $270 via visitor( we paid$310 each). They get to see three different places and see baby, adults and king penguins, and even see the dolphins, I think we were cheated by the lady tour guide. The tour definitely not worth gir $310 ($930 total). I would say the Viator should do something about it.

We were completely satisfied! A private tour (my wife and I, plus the very friendly driver) in a four-wheel drive car. Berthas Beach with gentoos (donkey penguins), Magellanic penguins and even three king penguins. This place in the middle of the dunes cannot be approached by the large coaches. That's why it wasn't crowded and we were with only a few other people eye to eye with the penguins. This was followed by a visit to Gipsy Cove (beautiful scenery, few penguins, many tourists because of the large buses). Finally, Sea Lions at the lighthouse. The final city tour was very short because there is not much to see in Stanley itself. A perfect day!

The communication was terrible! We were told to be at port by 9 am for tour to start but it didn’t start until 1030am. We lost 90 minutes of time that we could have been exploring Stanley. The beach and penguins were amazing. At the beach we were told we had to be back in 45 minutes. That 45 minutes turned into another 90 minutes when the driver said, “oh, look at the time…we are supposed to be back by now”. When we returned there was no time to explore Stanley before catching the tender. The price of this tour should have equaled private but it was not. I highly recommend not pre- booking and finding a guide at the pier when you arrive. There are tons!

We had a lovely woman (I cannot remember her name, but, she was lovely) drive us approximately one hour and fifteen minutes to Bertha's Beach to visit with the Gentoo Penguin's. The ride was very comfortable and you got to see the beautiful landscape of the Falkland Islands. It was only three of us in the car, and like private tour. It is not a crowded beach with many visitors, which we loved. No large busses can reach the penguin area. We spent one hour taking pictures of the penguin's on land and then walked to the beach to see more penguin's lounging on the beach. The penguin's were absolutely adorable and the beach was beyond gorgeous. Wonderful, wonderful afternoon at Bertha's Beach to visit with the Gentoo Penguins. I recommend highly to visit Bertha's Beach. Not many tourist!!

Great numbers of Gentoo Penguins and can get very close to them! We had no King penguins on the day we were there but was so much fun to watch the Gentoo!
