Follow me down a dark alleyway into Oxford's mysterious and bloody past.
Oxford is one of the most haunted places in Britain, with good reason. It was the murder capital of medieval England, largely due to its extremely badly behaved student population.
I will take you on a tour round the city's most sinister streets and baddest back-alleys, where we will hear about the terrible events that have left so many spirits wandering eternally. Burning bishops. Enraged poltergeists. Abandoned lovers. The Devil himself!! All have made their restless presence felt over the centuries and if we're (un)lucky, we might spot one of them tonight - it has happened on my tours before.
This tour is thoroughly enjoyed by children, but it does contain some quite gory details so check they are ok with that. It needs to take place when it's dark, as that's when 'they' come out. It could well be cold, and possibly wet, so please dress accordingly.

St. Michael At The North Gate
We will start at the oldest building in Oxford: the Saxon tower at St Michael's at the North Gate, on the ancient street of Cornmarket, where the decapitated heads of executed prisoners used to be displayed to all who entered, as a warning. . .
Broad Street
The place three bishops were burned by Bloody Mary.

A wonderfully atmospheric evening with the exceptional tour guide Lady Gargoyle. Fascinating stories told with great flair. As a passing cyclist called out: “Lady Gargoyle rocks!” Highly recommended!

Took my teen and a gaggle of her friends on Jess' ghost tour the night before Halloween, and it was a real spoooooky treat. Jess dealt really well with the slightly lippy, lots-of-questions-before-the-story-is-over teens, and they had a great time. Awesome stories about al sorts of sad characters meeting grizzly and outrageous ends, evocative descriptions and a history lesson bundled into one, as she swept down dark alleyways. My personal favourite story was that of Anne Greene, who was executed after she miscarried - but when a scientist received her corpse to dissect it, he discovered a faint pulse, and was able to revive her, and she got a happy ever after! Highly recommend.

Fantastic spooky night! We were led around the dimly lit cobbled back streets of Oxford - or as we now know it, the murder capital of medieval times! - and told about the gruesome deaths in and subsequent hauntings of many ancient institutions. Took my aloof 13 year old and a friend's 12 year old and they lapped up every story! Lady Gargoyle didn't skimp on detail nor theatrics as her chilling words rose in the freezing January darkness, visible but vanishing into the night, echoing the quickly forgotten brutalality of human history and the rushed elective amnesia of collective experiences of mystery. Really interesting tour for kids and adults alike. Learnt so much fascinating history and done with wonderful humour. Highly recommend!

This tour was amazing. I would thoroughly recommend Lady Gargoyle’s Ghost tour. She led us down the dark, scary cobbled, medieval streets of Oxford telling us stories of horror, murder, hangings and drownings. Lady Gargoyle’s stories had us shaking in our shoes and gave us goose bumps but Lady Gargoyle breaks the fear with a funny although ghostly story and has us laughing and recovering from our fear. This is what makes this tour such a perfect family Ghost Tour. There is a mix of scary and funny. As well as telling us about the ghosts Lady Gargoyles Ghost tour is also very informative. I have to say there are now some places in Oxford that I will now only pass in the daylight. I would thoroughly recommend this family tour.
