very good tour. the tour guy/ organizer was a very knowledgeable guy. he spoke good English and was able to explain everything and answer questions. We were in a newer and comfortable Toyota Land Cruiser. day before the tour he came to our hotel and explained and went over the tour plan. the only thing I would recommend is for the guide to inform about changes to the tour plan. we had a little situation where we expected something but did not get it. small thing but it would have been better had we been informed about is sooner. not a big deal but still. anyways, I would definitely recommend this tour. Keep in mind... this is not a 5-star hotel type of a tour. For that reason you do not pay $4000-$5000. for the price, we were very satisfied and recommend this agency.

I went off season, meaning most camps were already closed; nevertheless everything was arranged to sleep with nomadic families! One truly incredible experience. From pick up at the airport and all through the Gobi I was so well looked after by my driver that was also my guide and cook! Language is no longer a barrier and we communicated through Google translate. One experience I would definitely recommend!!

Our Gobi Desert tour was one of the the best things that either my friend or I have ever done. This is a must do if you want to come to Mongolia. There is so much to see other than Ulaanbaatar! Our guide was amazing and very funny. Highly recommend for anyone interested in seeing the Gobi Desert.

  • Safe, Authentic, and Truly Memorable Gobi Desert Adventure

Tour Dates: August 18-24, 2025 The highlight of my recent trip to Mongolia was this unforgettable 7-day tour arranged by Eternal Gobi Tours. Mongolia can be a challenging destination even for seasoned travelers, but Yadma of Eternal Gobi Tours made sure that my experience was memorable in every way. Covering vast distances across the Gobi Desert, this tour truly checked all the boxes—iconic landmarks, cultural encounters, and moments of raw natural beauty. Day 1: My journey began with a half-day tour from Ulaanbaatar to the Genghis Khan Statue Complex, home to the world’s largest equestrian statue, rising 40 meters high. The drive gave me my first glimpse of Mongolia’s beguiling landscapes—endless steppes, grazing sheep, and scattered gers along the horizon. At the complex, visitors can also enjoy activities such as horseback riding or posing with eagles (for a small fee). Day 2: I joined four other travelers and we set off on a seven-hour, 300-kilometer drive in a Toyota Land Cruiser from Ulaanbaatar into the Gobi Desert. Our main stop was Baga Gazriin Chuluu (Small Rock Mountain), a national park where breathtaking granite formations rise from the open steppe. The rugged terrain is dotted with shrubs, caves, and even the ruins of an old monastery hidden among the cliffs. We spent the night at a hotel in Dundgovi. Day 3: Another long drive took us to Tsagaan Suvarga (White Stupa), an iconic natural landmark with colorful mudstone cliffs sculpted over millions of years by wind, rain, and tectonic shifts. For the night, we stayed in a tourist camp --- simple and rustic gers with basic furnishings, an outhouse toilet, and a separate shower room with cold running water. Surprisingly, the beds were warm and the ger itself felt cozy, making for a comfortable night’s rest despite the modest setup. A bonus was the sight of a herd of camels grazing near our camp. Day 4: We ventured off-road into the Gurvan Saikhan Mountains to reach Yolyn Am (also known as Ice Valley or Eagle Valley). After hours of driving, we eagerly set off on a 1.5-kilometer hike into the valley, leading to a small waterfall. The hike did not disappoint—stunning scenery surrounded us at every turn, from curiously shaped rock formations to colorful alpine wildflowers, and yes, with eagles circling overhead. I even spotted a small pica darting through the bushes. That night, we stayed at another tourist ger camp, and with the sky perfectly clear, it was the ideal evening for stargazing. We also met a merry band of four fellow travelers who would be joining our group for the rest the tour. Day 5: Arguably the highlight of the tour was visiting the spectacular Khongor Sand Dunes, towering up to 300 meters high. The vast silver dunes were mesmerizing to explore on foot, but the real magic came from a short camel ride (20,000 tugrik for 15 minutes), which made the desert feel truly alive. The best part was we had the sand dunes all to ourselves with no other tourists in sight. We spent the night at a nearby tourist ger camp with Western-style toilets and warm showers. This has got to be our most ‘luxurious’ ger camp complete with a canteen and a café. Day 6: A four-hour drive brought us to the Bayanzag Flaming Cliffs, often dubbed as Mongolia’s answer to the Grand Canyon. This is the very site where the first dinosaur eggs were discovered in the 1920s. Before exploring the canyons, we stopped at a small museum showcasing paleontological finds from the area and watched a short film recounting the famous 1920s expedition. A walk along the flame-colored sandstone cliffs was a fitting finale to our Gobi adventure. Our last night was spent in a tourist ger camp in Omnögovi. Day 7: Our final day was spent mostly on the road, with a seven-hour drive back to Ulaanbaatar. We returned tired, but with unforgettable memories of the Gobi etched into our minds. Overall, Eternal Gobi Tours gave us a trip of a lifetime. Our driver-guides, Yadma and Mönkhöö, went above and beyond to make sure we had a safe, comfortable, and truly memorable journey. I loved that our group was kept small—just 11 of us including the guides—which made the experience so much more personal. They even arranged special meals to accommodate my dietary requirements, which I greatly appreciated. Yes, traveling off-road in Mongolia comes with a few surprises like car breakdowns, blown tires, or rainy weather, but that’s all part of the adventure—and honestly part of the charm. Thanks to Eternal Gobi Tours, I got to experience the Gobi in the most authentic way. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
