Mud Volcanoes
Whenever we reach to Gobustan area, we lead to the Mud Volcanoes. Home to nearly a third of the world's mud volcanoes, Azerbaijan features a messy, bubbling, and sometimes explosive landscape. Mud volcanoes are closely associated with hydrocarbon and petrochemical stores underground, hence the gas trying to escape to the surface. A few of these gas leaks are constantly on fire, shooting small perpetual flames into the air, and some believe that these perpetual flames are strongly connected to the appearance of the Zoroastrian religion in Azerbaijan some 2,000 years ago. Every 20 years or so, one of these mud/gas volcanoes will ignite deep below the surface and create a massive explosion. While generally not dangerous to people, as they are far outside of most city centers, it is believed that six shepherds and over 2,000 sheep were killed by a mud volcano in Bozdagh, Azerbaijan.
Gobustan Rock Art
After coming back from Mud Volcanoes, we go first to the Gobustan museum, and after spending some time there, we go to the Gobustan Rock Art (open-air museum). Gobustan State Reserve, located west of the settlement of Gobustan, about 40 miles southwest of the centre of Baku, was established in 1966 when the region was declared a national historical landmark of Azerbaijan in an attempt to preserve the ancient carvings, mud volcanoes, and gas-stones in the region. Gobustan State Reserve is very rich in archeological monuments, the reserve has more than 6,000 rock carvings, which depict primitive people, animals, battle-pieces, ritual dances, bullfights, boats with armed oarsmen, warriors with lances in their hands, camel caravans, pictures of sun and stars, on the average dating back to 5,000-20,000 years.

It was a great experience: everything was so interesting and it’s really something you can’t skip if you go to Azerbaijan. The tour was perfect and the driver was really kind. We had no issue throughout the whole day. I advise everyone to do it.

The tour was fantastic we enjoyed every bit of it! The car was perfect and comfortable and big big shoutout to Azar our guide/driver for the day who was absolutely fantastic. Was very knowledgeble with taking us to all the places and explaining the history. Was very patient with waiting for us and took us to one of the best doner kebab shops which was absolutely our favourite and we could never have found it if not for him. Highly reccommend requesting for Azar if you're doing this tour and choosing this tour operator. Everything was seamless and smooth and got quick replies and even some general advice from Azad as well which we appreciated with the helpful & quick responses. Unfourtunately we coudn't see the mud volcanos due to it being closed on the day but it gives us a reason to come back and choose Best Baku Tours again.

Our private full day tour with Parvin was absolutely brilliant for me and my parents! Parvin was the best guide, very knowledgeable, a great driver, always willing to help, and good company for a day out exploring. The sites are very interesting. I had been to Ateshgah without a guide before but going with Parvin made it a much better experience - he really bought it to life. Thank you for such a great, unforgettable trip!

Great trip! Our family loved going to Qobustan, seeing and learning the thousand years old Petroglyphs. The drive to the Mud Volcanoes was an amazing experience! It was really cool seeing the Mud Volcanoes almost up close while they were bubbling. We enjoyed our trip with our guide Emin and definitely would recommend him to others visiting Baku.

We spent a perfect day around Baku with Azar who was very well acquainted with history, stories and made the tour very pleasant. To reach the mud volcanos we had to switch cars and had a great Lada experience. There was nothing to reproach during the tour. We honestly recomend it!
