Thingvellir National Park
Learn about some of the thrilling and somewhat gruesome history of Iceland at Thingvellir National Park. It’s significance is so great that it is a designated UNESCO world heritage site. You’ll walk the grounds where Icelandic democracy began and visit sites where Viking-era justice was carried out including the Drowning Pool and the Gallows Rock. Thingvellir is also the place where two tectonic plates are gradually separating creating a gorgeous landscape of steep cliffs and broad fields featuring Thingvallavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland.

We had a pretty good experience going to the golden circle. Unfortunately, there was a lot of rain and cloud cover but the guide was good natured and told great stories. We had a little mishap with the bus which cost about 40 minutes so the last stop was quite abbreviated but overall, I would recommend it.

Very informative and fantastic landscape. 7 hours long with stops that allowed you plenty of time to explore the sights.

It’s a day’s travel…landforms of the country well covered. Food at geysers was good. Plan on that. Guide talked a lot and gave constant information. But her broken English was difficult to understand. Missed about half of the lecture due to clarity. It was a very sunny day and we saw no signs of a golden color in the falls or rainbows…

A little underwhelming in terms of overall experience. Still recommend it because I can understand the appeal and appreciation of the various sights along the Golden Circle. The mix of rain and cold was a bit rough so you spend more hours on a bus than actually getting to “experience “ the sights. Amazing landscapes but I would want to more history being told by the guide. You get bits and pieces here and there but compared to other tours I’ve experienced the guide could have been more descriptive.

We saw 3 whales breaching and double digits hump back whales actively hunting. It was magical. Only area for improvement is the speaker system on the boat is very soft, very hard to hear what the guide is saying even standing right in front of her on the top deck.
