The day begins early at park headquarters in Kinigi, where visitors are briefed and assigned to small groups maximum of 8 people per group Each group is accompanied by experienced guides and armed rangers for safety and support. Treks can last anywhere from 1 to 6 hrs, depending on where the gorillas are located that day. The hike takes you through thick forest, muddy trails, and steep terrain. A moderate level of fitness is helpful. Along the way, you’ll encounter beautiful scenery, from misty volcano peaks to dense bamboo groves and fern-filled ravines. Once your group finds its assigned gorilla family, you’re allowed to spend one magical hour observing them. You might see, Silverbacks lounging or patrolling the group. Females grooming each other or caring for infants. Playful juveniles swinging from vines or tumbling through the brush. The gorillas are habituated to human presence, so they often continue their activities undisturbed Visitors must keep a respectful 7-meter distance
