Your tour guide is meeting you at the port. Guernsey is a great destination with lots to see and do whatever time of the year you choose to visit.
On this walking tour, half day, you are going to visit some of the main attractions around Saint Peter Port, capital of Guernsey and main port of the island.
We start our tour visiting Castle Cornet.This castle is the main landmark for visitors arriving in the island, it was built in the 13th century as a defensive fortress against the French and in later centuries it had other uses.
On next stop is Hauteville House where Victor Hugo lived during his time in exile from France. Hugo spent his time there writing his masterpieces and decorating the house.
On the way back to the Town, there is the opportunity to visit a viewpoint, with stunning views over the town rooftops and, of your ship moored just outside the main harbour.

Hauteville House where Victor Hugo lived during his time in exile from France. Hugo spent his time there writing his masterpieces and decorating the house.The house is operated by the City of Paris who provide their own guides. Your local guide will take you to the entrance, arrange tickets and, then meet you back at the entrance after your tour

5.00When I booked I read small group but it ended up a private tour for the 4 of us, two older couples 69, 71, 72, 80. We were greeted by Ine our guide at the port. She was friendly and very attentive and saw our ages and offered safer and easier routes to mitigate the challenges of uneven pavement and uneven outside stairs and avoid those with no handrails. There is considerable climbing and walking involved my wife reached her 10000 steps while on tour. The port/town is very interesting and charming with Ine's knowledge shining through repeatedly. We toured the church, the old market area, Victor Hugo's house and the Cornet Castle got to see and hear the noontime cannon shot as well. The highlight was undoubtedly the Hugo house, which was included, and offered up so much to see. His house like his books had so many intricate details. Our house guide Montaine was also excellent. The garden, the views everything about it oh so memorable. The little channel island of Guernsey stands tall against Edinburgh, Inverness, Glasgow, Belfast, Liverpool as our other cruise destinations. So glad we did this tour. Highly recommended.
