There used to be four mountains called Maymekh in Armenia, the highest of which is located near Vanadzor. This peak is part of the Pambak Mountain Range, has an altitude of 3,081 m and is now known as Mount Dzithanits. The so-called Woodless Maymekh (2,534 m) is located to the northwest of Mount Dzithanits. The terms “Mets” and “Pokr” Maymekh used to refer to two peaks in the far northwest of the Areguni Range. The “Pokr Maymekh” is now referred to as Mount Yeghjervasar (2,559 m), while the Mets Maymekh is still referred to as such, in addition to being known as “Dilijan Maymekh”.
Pambak
The mountain range has an irregular shape, with steep slopes and short, 5-6 km ridges extending off it on the northern side. On the southern side, however, it has gentler slopes, and longer ridges of up to 12 km. Most of the range is formed from volcanic and sedimentary subsurface rock. The sedimentary subsurface of the range’s western part is comprised of limestone, sandstone and marlstone, while granite and diorite are more common in the central area.
