Albert Cuyp Market
In and around the most popular street market in the Netherlands we will visit small family businesses that are loved by many Amsterdammers and that we have visited for years. This is a mix of mom-and-pop stores, marker vendors as well as newer food entrepreneurs. We focus on Dutch and international (e.g. Indonesian, Surinamese, Japanese) street foods and pastries. Herring, Broodje Pom, Kroket and Stroopwafels to name a few.
De Pijp
The vibrant and eclectic local neighborhood of De Pijp has many small and narrow streets where we will visit some of our favorite local iconic businesses. It will be a mix of local 'Toko's' (small grocery stores and eateries with Indonesian or Surinamese foods and mostly Asian food products), Dutch street food places. (e.g. Herring, Fries, Kroket, Poffertjes, Stroopwafels) as well as international newer eateries like Japanese Sandos.
Around 7 to 9 street foods and a few drinks equivalent to a full brunch / lunch.

We were so lucky to discover Hungry Birds' Original Street Food Tour! We had the good fortune to be guided by the company's founder, Esther. A Netherlands native, she's half Dutch, half Indonesian and 100% Amsterdammer. Our tour focused on the diverse, exciting De Pijp neighborhood and its grand old Albert Cuyp Market. If it's not sold there, you probably don't need it. We ate and drank and walked for 4.5 hours straight with a small, convivial group of world travelers of all ages. We were all food tour groupies, too, game for sampling the special food traditions of this place. And did we get them! From herring to jenever (medievel ancestor of modern gin) to stroopwafels ... we tried it all. Esther knows everyone, it seems. She had a back door into every establishment, so we skipped every line. Better yet, she clearly had a strong, authentic relationship to the vendors we were meeting at every stop. Her passion for the people and the place makes all the difference, and truly sets this food tour apart from the others. Hartelijk bedankt!

Anne was an amazing guide!! We had a wonderful time exploring neighborhoods we may not have gone to otherwise. She is extremely knowledgable and we learned many facts about Amsterdam, the Netherlands and all the international cultures that make Amsterdam such a diverse community with fabulous food! We would highly recommend Hungry Birds!!!!! Loved them :)

We had an excellent afternoon with Anna exploring six locations in a quiet Amsterdam neighborhood. Anna is a great story teller and selected an interesting variety of cuisine types to highlight different food movements within Amsterdam. Especially enjoyed the Suriname sandwich at the end. Thanks Anna!

We booked the Food Tour in February. It was our first time in Amsterdam and despite many other great experiences our absolute highlight during our time in Amsterdam. We were shown very small and special places, but also some classics. The food was really delicious and partly exceptional. The tour was very personal and dedicated with lots of information and insights about the dishes and the history behind them. Our dog was also with us, which did not pose a problem at all. We would definitely recommend the tour. Thanks for the lovely time and all the love, Oliver, Inga & Mila

I booked this tour on their website for December 26 (apparently a holiday in the Netherlands) a full two days ahead and everything seemed to go through without issue. On the day of the tour I woke up to an email from the company saying my credit card had been declined. I called my CC company and they said everything was fine, that I the payment had gone through. I tried calling and emailing Hungry Birds several times but got no answer. I went to the meeting point to try and join the tour anyway and found that there was nobody there. I now have come to the conclusion that they didn’t want to run the tour today and forgot to remove the availability from their website. This whole experience has wasted my time and caused a huge inconvenience while on a very costly holiday. It is even more frustrating as it could have been remedied with a simple, timely email or phone call. Very, very disappointing.

This was a great tour that exceeded our expectations. Anna was a great guide and her personal relationship with all the vendors really enhanced the whole experience. It was also very enlightening that the tour was in De Pijp which provided us with a look at a neighborhood in Amsterdam outside the canal rings.

Amazing tour with Anna. Really shared the food, culture and history of Amsterdam. Each place had a unique Amsterdam or Dutch history tied to it. The foods at each were amazing....and beyond the herring, stupplewaffle & gouda We came back to a few to try a again. This was one of the best food tours that we experienced in our month in Basqueland, France and the Netherlands
