During this 4-5 hours unique cooking workshop, you’ll be taken into an authentic local spice market to explore it with fun challenges to complete and learn different species of Sichuan spices and ingredients that will be used in the following cooking class. The class will be carried out in Chilli Cool Workshop which is in the city center. You’ll be treated with Sichuan local tea as it’s local’s custom to treat friends and visitors. After that, you then will be guide to start the cooking process by a professional chef in a cozy kitchen. Finally, you can enjoy the dishes made by yourself along with some beers or beverages. For it’s really informative, interesting and fun, this class will be an unforgettable experience in your lifetime.

Lance is the man. His english is fantastic and explained all of the different ingredients available in the local market with great detail. He translated the chef’s instructions and ensured we had a very enjoyable time. If you book, make sure to ask for Lance!!!!

10/10 experience, one of my favourite activities in China so far! If you are looking for an authentic small group cooking experience, don't hesitate to book! Our guide Lance was fantastic, the market visit was almost as enjoyable as the cooking class itself. Lance even purchased different fruits and foods for us to try from the market that were new to us. The dishes we cooked were super tasty and there was something for everyone!

I had a great time learning new dishes. I have been cooking for pleasure for decades this experience has enhanced my ability to blend spices and foods to taste most excellent! Lance is the consummate tour guide. He is a pro at his trade & speaks excellent English! I bought chili cools cookbook definitely a keeper to add to my copious amounts of recipe books I own! Highly recommend him as your guide!

I absolutely loved my time there! From the delicious food to the visit to the local supermarket and learning more about Chinese culture from our amazing guide, Lance, everything was fantastic. Lance made the experience feel so personal and authentic. He connected us with the culture through his local perspective, sharing insightful stories with warmth, intelligence, and kindness. He didn’t just answer our questions, he made us feel truly at home. The class itself was incredibly immersive! At one point, we even got to experience the real intensity of Chinese cooking, moving fast, mixing, stirring, frying, and making sure nothing overcooked. It was so much fun and gave me a rush of adrenaline! haha I’d highly recommend this class to anyone visiting. Thank you, Chilli Cool Team, for such an unforgettable experience!

I took this class with Lance and Li on October 26, 2025. It was definitely one of the highlights of my time in Chengdu, and overall in China. We cooked three dishes - sautéed cabbage, mapo tofu, and pork belly. Every single dish turned out amazing - I'm not exaggerating when I say I think it was better than what I've had in restaurants. Lance showed me around a local market first, and I was able to ask so many questions and learn more about local ingredients that I've never seen before. We even bought some fruits like longan and Chinese dates that I'd never tried before. During the actual cooking portion, Lance and Li provided such a good experience. I was able to really learn the right techniques of cooking with a wok, and we discussed the ingredients in detail so that I'll be able to find the right stuff when I get home. It was just such a wonderful and valuable experience that I would highly recommend to anyone who loves food and cooking. I'm so happy to have a copy of their extensive cookbook so I can try all of their dishes in the future!

A very enjoyable, informative and tasty experience. I thoroughly recommend this Sichuan cooking class. Jerry’s English was perfect and he along with a chef guided, and demonstrated to the class, how to prepare and cook 5 traditional Sichuan dishes, which you’ll find on menus in restaurants across Chengdu. After which, the group sat around a table and enjoyed the food we’d cooked. The food was delicious. Can’t wait to try the recipes at home. The event was very well organised. Overall 10/10.

Lance was our tour guide and he is very friendly and polite. He took us around the market first and it was fun! We learnt about each food and why they're important to the people and what it used for. He even teaches you some Chinese words to communicate which was a fun experience. Afterwards he took us to the kitchen to cook some authentic Chendgu dish. It was a fun experience overall and the food was amazing thanks to Lee, our chef! Thank you for experience! We are beyond grateful for the experience and culture!
