Kuiseb River
After a short break at the Walvis Bay Lagoon to see masses of flamingos, the drive initially takes us to the Kuiseb river delta, a dry riverbed where the odd springbok may still be seen. As this area forms part of our Kuiseb Delta Concession, we are the only activity operator allowed to access this area. If weather and tides allow, we will drive right to the Sandwich Harbour Lagoon along the beach, one of Southern Africa’s richest and unique wetlands and one of five RAMSAR sites (Ramsar site no. 743) in Namibia.
Sandwich Harbour boasts two distinct wetlands and associated mudflats. One is aquifer-fed and supports typical emergent vegetation, but is slowly disappearing due to natural causes. The second, under tidal influence, consists of mudflats and raised shingle bars. Wedged between the sea and the Namib Dunes, it is one of Namibia's most important coastal wetlands, supporting eight endangered species among the large numbers of wading birds. Several archaeological sites dating back 1,000 years exist within the site. Human activities have included fishing, guano collection, and hunting. If our vehicles cannot drive all along the beach to get to Sandwich Harbour because of high tide, you will get a chance to see the lagoon area from one of our many beautiful lookout spots and will have the time to walk and explore. We have lots of time to stop along the way for photography. • Lunch: Selection of our famous fresh Namibian oysters and snacks with sparkling wine, beers and cool drinks.

Sam was one of the best and most fun loving guides I have had the pleasure of driving with. He gave ample time for us to take photos, made jokes, was knowledgable about the animals, dunes, sea, tide and swells. We were spoilt beyond measure. He is a super fantastic guide and his driving capabilities kept me smiling the whole way- my cheeks are still sensitive. If you appreciate nature and want to experience the dunes, I recommend going with Sandwich Harbour 4x4

We had a great day with Elmar - such a kind and experienced guide, and the views of the dunes next to the water was amazing. I'm so glad that we did this excursion as a tour, because I would not have felt comfortable driving on the dunes and in the sand. A bit expensive, but this tour was definitely worth it! We also had a lovely lunch too.

Sandwich and Pelican Point should have been the best moments of our stay on the Namib coast. First of all, the guide who was leading the group, I think her name was Leonne, was very, very rude to another guide, the white-haired senior guide. Then we went to Sandwich. Our guide was great, but the head of the guides got stuck. Very unprofessional. Then we went to the Pelican Peninsula. One of the other guides, Hansen, ended up in a river, with the car starting to float in the water. It's very dangerous! The members of our group could have drowned! They got wet in the car! That's not acceptable. The head of the guides panicked and did not know how to handle the situation. The elderly driver pulled out the car and saved the lives of our friends, and even the car itself. This company does not have the right guides to treat their guests well and safely. I'm not going to contact this company again. /GOOGLE TRANSLATION: Sandwich and Pelican Point should have been the highlights of our stay on the Namib Coast. What a great afternoon! The dunes of Sandwich Harbour are amazing and driving across them in a 4x4 is one of the most spectacular ways to experience them. We booked directly with Nico Robberts, on a personal recommendation, and he was an absolutely brilliant guide and great fun. The luxurious desert picnic Nico laid on was a highlight!

Wasn't sure what to expect and perhaps that helped. It was defintely one of the highlights of our trip. Staff were friendly and funny, but also skilled and safe. Driving thru flooding tides, up/down those crazy sand dunes require skills and it was exhilirating afternoon. You end up seeing the scenary from surreal spots! Yet sometimes you feel like James Bond in action! To top it off the champagne snack at the end (with fresh oysters) capped off an unforgettable afternoon.

This was a great tour. We were 3 to a truck so everybody had a window. Our driver was super friendly and helpful. You drive to the dunes - the first few stops haveInterest but now the final stop is the best - so don’t waste your good things early in the day.

We had an absolutely fantastic experience on this half day trip. I honestly cannot recommend it highly enough. Our guide Deon was incredibly knowledgeable and made the entire experience fun and memorable. Driving along the beach at low tide was a thrill and the view from up on the dunes onto Sandwich Harbor was breathtaking. The lunch provided high up on the dunes (with oysters and sparkling wine) is something I will never forget. I have already recommended this trip to several other travellers we have met in Namibia. We absolutely loved it.

After some initial confusion as to where we needed to meet off the cruise port in Walvis Bay, we found the office and were divided into groups and loaded into the vehicles. We were pleased to be in a sturdy 4WD Land Cruiser for the excursion as one of the other standard SUVs did get stuck in the sand. Our sub contracted driver from Bandu Bashing was amazing. He manuvered his vehicle very capably during the dune bashing and over the beach areas. The scenery in this area is absolutely stunning and the ride on Sandwich Harbour with the dunes on one side and ocean on the other is incredible. We were provided with drinks and also a wonderful lunch of fresh oysters and other tasty treats.
