Very detailed visit, the guide was very well spoken and took time to answer questions. He was very patient and helped us buy the right teas afterwards too. He explained all steps in the factory process very clearly and we spent about an hour on the tour. I’d recommend.

We were introduced to the tea making process with a very knowledgeable member of the Halpe team. The factory was so clean & it seems very efficient, with mechanical means ideas that date back to the 1800s then the finishing electronic/laser process that finalises the grades only 8 years old. Ceylon has always been well known all around the world & now we know from where. The Halpe factory sells its to tea to an open market for world wide distribution.

We enjoyed the factory tour given by Radja. Very well explained. Bit pushy to buy tea in the end, but that’s the only disadvantage.

We had an amazing time at the Halpewatte Tea Factory ! The factory visit was really interesting thanks to our 2 guides, Bianca and Hassan. They took time to answer all of our questions on the industrial processes. Additionnally, the view from the rooftop store & tea degustation area is gorgeous.

From the moment I arrived, the cool mountain air and panoramic views set the tone. The guided tour was well-organized and informative, taking me step by step through the entire tea-making process—from plucking the leaves to withering, rolling, fermenting, drying, and grading. Seeing the machinery in action and learning how different types of tea are produced gave me a whole new appreciation for what goes into every cup. One of the best parts of the tour was the hands-on element. I had the chance to try plucking tea leaves myself and even dress like a traditional tea picker, which made for a fun and memorable experience. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to answer questions and explain details in a simple, engaging way. At the end of the tour, I got to taste a variety of freshly brewed teas. The flavors were incredibly rich and aromatic—far superior to anything I’ve had before. There’s also a small shop where you can purchase high-quality teas directly from the source, which is perfect if you want to take a piece of the experience home.

Lovely tour, lots of interesting facts from the guide Hashan. You walk round the busy factory and see all stages of processing the leaves. Then you test 8 different teas. There is a lovely view from the tour start point.
